Project Runway (season 8)

Geez. I can't believe she won. I thought her's was plain jane like it has been for the rest of the season. I was very unimpressed.

I really thought that Andy's wasn't that great either. In the attempt to tone himself down, he lost that excitement. I think Nina killed him when she made the comment, I hope we don't see warrior girl in every outfit.

And why the hell do they have Jessica Simpson (or however you spell her last name) as the finale guest judge? She has no crediability in the field of fashion.

I was under impressed with all three collections...but of all 3 I thought Mondo had the most range in his collection. Gretchen all she did was bloomers and flowy tops...and that last dress was HIDEOUS.

Andy's all looked monotone and boring...and goodness that green shrug type jacket that that lady was raving about was horrible...those shoulders were just weird.

Mondo's wasn't perfect, but definitely the most exciting. That bubble dress was extremely cute, I saw that and thought of about 5 friends that would kill for that dress.

Who'd a thunk granola was a direction they'd want to see fashion go?

Gretchen's collection was mainly drab....some pieces downright hideous. Drab brown ugly prints mixed together...throw in some shiny black leather (?) with tight briefs (that no woman will wear) and a Carmen Santiago over-sized brimmed hat, Sarah Coventry jewelry and call it fashion....really? I don't see her aesthetic being anything worthy of recognition by the fashion world, critics, etc...specifically I really don't get the praise Nina and Michael were lavishing on her. Heidi and Jessica clearly wanted Mondo to win...who'd a thunk those 2 would be the voices of reason? ;)

I'm assuming the real deciding factor is that Piperlime thinks they can sell more of Gretchen's stuff than Mondo's. Whatever...I don't shop there. All I can say is "good luck with that!"

PR really did get this one wrong though...Mondo was the clear winner...he was the star of the show and the fan favorite, and will ultimately get the most attention. Gretchen will just drift off into reality tv obscurity...

I often wonder what happens to the winners and losers.

Mondo won, no matter what th judges said and Michael C. should have had has chance to be in th finals

Mondo should've won. Add Gretchen to the list of designers that should not have won. Michael C should have been in the final three! IMO, All 3 collections sucked! The show peaked with Christian Siriano, and it's been down hill from there.

Y'know how some say when the world comes to an end, all that will be left are cockroaches and Cher? Well, add Jessica Simpson to that list! Why was she there? Did JLo cancel again? Her music career is nonexistent. She doesn't act. She just refuses to go away!

Now excuse me, I have to go take a dump!

I think Mondo lost because he "dared" include the same dress that Nina and Michael had criticized. I happened to really like it--a lot. Not every woman could wear it, e.g., Nina. But his model looked great and Heidi would have, too.

I have no doubt that piperline.com had everything to do with that decision.

It amazes me that the judges dogged Michael C. so hard about his collection being monochromatic, but dismissed the same thing in Gretchen's with nothing more than a single comment from Nina.

Not only should Gretchen NOT have won, but her boring collection was easily the least impressive of the three and in fact, she didn't even deserve to make Top 3 over Michael in my opinion. Ugh. What a lame ending to an otherwise awesome season. Everyone knows Mondo was really the best this season.

Well, I guess I'll add my two bits:

Andy: Gawd, he wore pants similar to the ones he designed for the Jackie O. challenge. They looked as bad on him as on his model. I really thought the head pieces were a waste and distracting. A nice collection but only green and silver and no show piece outfit.

Mondo: I wish he had removed some of the accessories. There was so much going on. I do agree that more elegance needed to be added.

Gretchen: Granny panties in her collection and on her body under her transparent skirt. I liked the open backs. Not so fond of the prints. Dramatic on the runway but at the end when her model was standing next to her, the effect was very "Yo, dude."

Look, for whatever reason the judges favored Gretchen throughout the season. They gave her two chances when she should have gone home -- once when she was head of the team challenge and then at the end with her NY midtown boho outfit. Does Piperlime have something to do with this? Michael K and Nina wanted ready to wear and they got it.

In a time of global austerity the fashion industry is questioning its own relevance. I guess Nina and Michael K felt that being relevant and wearable was more important than couture and creativity.

As for Michael . . . I watched the second to last episode again and yes, his collection really was mostly copper in color. We've seen feathered skirts before and honestly the ruffled show piece he designed looked hideous. I really wanted him to show at Fashion Week but I think he had, if not a weak collection, then one we've seen before many, many times.

Yes I agree about Michael C. All he did was a fantasy evening wear collection and those never win on PR. And those dresses with the feathers look like he mugged a muppet.

Can you really say this after seeing the dress above AND viewing Michael's collection in its entirety?.

Yes, I stand by my statement. Michael is certainly very hit or miss (I never said he should win) but at least he's memorable and when he's good, it can be VERY good. Gretchen is just boring to me, she hasn't wowed me once all season and her final collection put me to sleep.

I thought the show was called Project Runway, not Project Retail. As someone who has worked in the industry and has had many run-ins with buyers, the way this works is you put your most creative looks/ideas on the catwalk for the ready-to-wear shows and adjust them LATER to be more retail friendly without losing your creative vision. You have tons of American designers like Michael Kors whose sole intent is to make safe, conformist clothes (basics, if you will) that will sell to the masses in your Macy's or TJMaxx. This is not fashion....these are simply clothes.

Then there's top-tier designers like your Mondo's and Galiano's who are more motivated by a singular vision that influences the next big fashion trends rather than perpetuate what's already been done a million times over.

This season had some very mediocre talent with Mondo being the only one that stood out for both his ideas and execution. After seeing Michael C's collection, the man has talent, obviously, but his looks weren't very Spring/Summer 2011. So I can see (now) why they made the decision they did. Andy's a mess. That 2-dimensional collection looked like a fashion students graduation show....not impressed even slightly. Gretchen...*sigh*....it's like she spent the entire season applying for a job as designer for Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie. Why would I want to reward someone for creating stuff that's already out there in abundance? Not to mention the fact that that whole aesthetic is on it's way out as being remotely fashionable.

Yeah, the judges lost ALL credibility this season. I hadn't watched the show since Siriano won and I don't see any reason to keep watching.

looking at Michael C's.... none of those are flattering to the models save one or two and considering how skinny they are how applicable would they actually be to real women. They also look dated. I mean how many times have we seen feather skirts...

although I do like Mondo I just have to assume ALL HE DOES IS MIXES PRINTS. I mean how many seasons can you actually get away with putting prints together that aren't ''suppose'' to go together but work? and if he changes his aesthetic, people will call blasphemy ''oh how he lost his touch''
his aesthetic atm looks a little too kiddish right now, too much like a nylon editorial but I do think he has the ability to improve on that. It would be fun to see him maybe play on structured and tailored conformed shapes but with outrageous patterns and colors
and imo Mondo fits somewhere more around Jeremy Scott then Galliano.
that said he prob still should have won (and that's coming from a Gretchen fan)

I cannot believe how much I bitched and moaned last season that Michael and Nina missed too many shows!

They both should have skipped the finale. They contradicted everything they've said since the show first started, as well as, much of their criticism this season.

Gretchen showed the most boring final 3 collection ever on PR. Women all over the country, of every age, are commenting on other boards that they'd never wear her clothes. The granny pants have become an internet joke all on their own.

Mondo gave a sweet and dignified interview to Entertainment Weekly about coming in 2nd. I hope he has great success and shows those idiot judges how wrong they were. Three cheers to Heidi for pushing for him.

i don't like any of them. but for the final, i'd pick gretchen over mondo. mondo seems to target teenagers. during the normal competition, mondo's better.

I've looked at each piece Mondo and Gretchen created and something really feels uncomfortable about Mondo's outfits. Will they turn heads? Yes, but ultimately the looks are odd, strange and yes, circusy.

and the post above, gretchen's more fashionable to me. and i don't like the head thing on mondo's.

I thought the show was called Project Runway, not Project Retail.

Gretchen...*sigh*....it's like she spent the entire season applying for a job as designer for Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie.

LOL! Well said. This is the perfect description of Gretchen's bland aesthetic.
