In the United States, 20 January 2025 is Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday, a national holiday, and it's also Inauguration Day for President Trump.

This means a three-day weekend in the USA and protest rallies are gearing up across the country.

In Seattle, it's The People's March. In other cities, it's The Women's March.

Whatever it's called, Stay Tuned - it's going to be a lively three days ahead!

We haven’t had any good riots in the past 4 years. Back to the good old times.

With the Inauguration moving indoors because of the cold weather, Washington is likely to be fairly quiet.

The protests are all likely to be pretty half hearted and not very effective though, because of the coincidence of the holiday, the Inaugration, the long weekend and the weather.

TrumpCo. are slavering for riots. Any excuse to impose martial law in the cities he hates.

^ This, indeed.

Younger women, like younger gays, are not as worried about a Trump presidency as those of a decade ago. Sure, he wasn't as nice as Obama, but he was also no worse than Bush.

From the article:
"Trump's November victory was helped by continued Republican gains among working-class voters, including black and Latino men. And despite pre-election discussion of a possible landslide for Harris among female voters, Trump also made inroads among white women, especially working-class women.
Trump has won a majority of white women voters in all three elections he's contested, following a pattern set by every Republican presidential candidate since at least the 1990s."

Can't wait for the riots. Karma and the cycle of life. Burn down your corner store. Loot the department store and nab some sneakers. Shoplift from you grocer regularly. Good times!

More merchants leave and more food deserts form. Abandoned ghetto property gets gentrified and unaffordable. And fast food goes to self-ordering.

And the men from those riot hoods, IF they voted, went for Trump. Karma. Put bad things in, get bad things out.

As for a due time for protest, I'd say the day of the State of the Union would be a better kickoff point. Make it plain the incoming plan is objectionable.

And for those of us who cannot be at the protest, I recommend wearing stripes that day to work in protest of a man who is a (recently) convicted felon. If enough people did that nationwide, it would set up a dynamic for an ongoing identification as opposition.

Even if employers suppress politics at work, they can't keep you from wearing stripes.

And no legitimate management can say that the conviction by law of a criminal is not a serious, or the MOST serious, problem with this president. It moved beyond accusation to conviction. Done and done.

As predicted, the Seattle People's March from Saturday was lightly attended.
The Seattle area is in a deep freeze with some of the coldest temperatures so far this winter.

Resist, resist, we are told that we need to resist. But I don't know what that will look like. Does that mean showing up for protests, where 20 people show up, and you're lucky if you get a 30 second segment on the local news? Does that mean writing letters to public officials opposed to the positions you advocate? Does that mean signing online petitions that may garner a few thousand signatures? Yes, these are things we can all do, but is any of this going to be effective? I fear that doing all this won't make one bit of difference. Does anyone have any ideas on actions that can be impactful? If so, I'd like to hear your opinion.

The enemy speaks only one language, that of money. So speak to them in the only language they understand. The $$$ that they make love to has come out of your pocket. Don't give them anymore. Avoid all the corporations that are kissing the dictators feet. There are always alternatives. Think about the lovely Anita Bryant and her orange juice. You did it once, you can do it again, this time on a massive scale

The time to make a show was November 2024.

The next time is November 2026.

Let's see how many Americans do it.

The only activity that makes a real impact is Voting. The opportunity from November 2024 has come, and gone. Up next . . . the business of getting on with everyday life.

2025 has two major governor's races, and both NJ Democrat Phil Murphy and VA Republican Glenn Youngkin cannot run again. Term limits.

It's January. Philadelphia TV is already running ads for Sean Spiller, running in the NJ Democratic gubernatorial primary.

This is great in theory, but it would have to be done on massive scale. Social media has eroded the solidarity necessary to undertake such massive boycotts. Add to this the power of consumerism we've all had instilled in us, as well as the financial durress many families are going through, making it beneficial to just click on Amazon and, sadly, it gets reduced to little more than a passive-agressive gesture.

History has proven that for a society like ours at a time like this, violence is the only answer. Heading over to Target with an armful of Molotov cocktails would send a much louder message. Remember LUIGI. Remember Stonewall. Riots work.

If that sounds extreme, what would you call the Trump administration? You can't fight fire with memes.

Ultimately, it will once again be the lower class that ends up fighting for us, although I fear that by then there won't be much worth fighting for.

So enjoy today as much as you can before the shit piles up too high to see the light of day.

I am voting for anyone who can bring back plastic bags and straws back to New Jersey

democrats had a chance to address republican voter suppression, gerrymandering and Jim Crow era voting laws making a comeback and chose to do jack shit. our (black people's) votes don't count.
