The whole 'homophobes = repressed closet-cases who are gaggging for cock' theory, may or may not be true; but as for psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy, etc, etc (and anything beginning with 'psych') ... it's all pretty much pseudo-scientific charlatanesque bullshit.

pseudo or not we still need them for profiling bad people such as serial killers, serial bombers, serial anything ... etc.

I did once (voluntarily) begin to see a psychiatrist regarding mental health issues; but upon realising that she had far more mental problems than I did, I immediately terminated my contact with her.

A good psych should keep the focus on the issues of the patient. If, for what ever reason, she was shifting the focus off of your issues, and discussing her own, then she was not at all professional. I would have terminated contact with her also.

I am also acquainted with several members of the psych professions socially; a psychiatrist, a couple of psychotherapists, several psychologists and numerous psychology students. All, without exception, are barkingly-mad, pretentious asshats, who are completey full of shit ... and yet they pretend to have some deep insight into the 'human condition'.

I'd be inclined to disagree, but unfortunately, that describes me to a tee.

You mean the experimental control? I didn't see enough about that in what I've read to swing me one way or another when it came to the control, but even if there is a statistically valid experimental control, that doesn't necessarily speak to the underlying causation of the disparity.

The notion that IQ tests are valid indicators of intelligence, and common sense has long been stone dead, in terms of practical assessment that has determined otherwise. It’s time that such bizarre practices are decently interred.

Yeah, I shoulda used past tense. But I don't think the notion has been dead long enough to lose relevance. Efforts (many in vain) to measure holistic intelligence breathe life back into a following of IQ.

The study the article remarks on was done at the University of Georgia about 4 years ago, which was a similar study and result to one run by Eastern Michigan University a couple years before that.
