I found out I had pubic lice last week (the 13th) and did the shampoo treatment that evening. The next day to be extra sure I shaved my whole body from my belly button down. I have washed my sheets every single day in hot water and on long dry cycles, I bleached my bathroom, vaccumed, and sprayed my mattress and sofa with furniture spray. I ran through my second shampoo treatment today (the 20th) and I found a louse on one of my lone pubic hairs that has grown back in. Is there anything else I can do? The neurotic cleaning and paranoia is driving me insane.

For refrence the shampoo I'm using has 4% piperonyl butoxide and 0.33% Pyrethrum extract.

It can take several treatments to completely be rid of them. Because the pediculicides (like pyrethrum) don't necessarily kill the eggs, you may need to repeat the treatment until you've killed off the lice before they can produce more eggs.

To the extent that you can, examine your self with a magnifying glass and use a tweezers.

Any clothes you wore during the infestation must be washed professionally and dry cleaned

I always find one or two every now and then. I have no idea where they come from... They are always isolated and no eggs in sight. I am very hairy, so everytime i have sex (even if it is with a regular friend) i always inspect my body looking for them. 2 months ago i found one near my knee, not a single egg in sight anywhere. 2 weeks ago i found another in my tummy, again no eggs in sight.
I just gave up the paranoia and accept it happens...
However, if i do find more than one and eggs, i use the lotion 1x/week for 3 weeks (because i refuse shave/trim, no respectable bear shaves his body!)

My late boyfriend told us just to wear the lotion regularly for as long as it took for all the eggs to hatch and the lice to come crawling to their toxic death. That way, you didn´t need to wash every single item of clothing/sheets before the usual time.

We used to have a whole crate of the stuff.

Armpits are another hiding / breeding place for them.
Shave the pits and treat them too.
