As heartwarming as it is to see people serving the needy on holidays, remember that these people have to eat 365 days a year. Don't wait til Xmas or Thanksgiving to pass out a few plates. We drive past them every day. It takes an hour to prepare a few meals and even less time to pass them out. Do it randomly, you'll never know when that might be their only meal for the day. There's an imbalance that EVERYBODY wants to pass out food on holidays, a lot of it goes to waste cuz before you showed up there were 6 other caravans passing out food. They'll take it, not wanting to be rude, and toss it in the bushes as soon as you leave (I've seen it). Spread it out folks!
Pro tip: I love when people get children involved, teaching them the value of serving others, but a word of caution: The homeless population includes sex offenders, be very very very very cautious.
