I would note that the PQ got 30.9% of the vote. The Liberals got 30.2% of the vote.

Not a ringing endorsement for separatism.

It wasn't a vote for separation, it was an election.

Oh, and there are other separatist parties (Québec Solidaire and Option Nationale for example). AND, some separatists vote for la CAQ (or are even members of it).

I've said what i had concerning the subject, and all i'Ve gotten in terms of replies have been how Québec would die and go to hell if we were to separate. Of course, that's all we hear from Canadians.. all the time. It gets tiring.
Even our most federalist leader Jean Charest said a few years ago that Québec had all the ressources to be independant.

It's not a matter of IF it's gonna happen.. it's just a matter of WHEN.

Keep telling yourself that you will live in an independent nation one day. I've been watching this a lot longer than you have.

At the end of the day, all Quebec really wants is a redefined federalism. And that is not a bad thing for any province.

But the demographics are against full separation. They tipped about a decade ago.

To be clear, Quebec would make a successful country with interesting potential. The point is, Canada already is a better place for all Canadians, including all Quebecers, to live our aspirations. The only time Quebecers came close to voting for separation is when Jacque Parizeau told people they could keep their Canadian passports, keep the Canadian dollar, keep the Queen as head of state….but all would somehow magically be separate.

Quebec is my country too, and it cannot lead us all to an isolationist and divided future because of the limits of the vision of a tired 1960s intellectual socialist class who mistakenly tied social justice to separation. Marois is part of a generation whose careers depend on selling people the idea they have nothing in common with their fellow citizens and they should just stay home. It's too limited to be believed any more.

In polls these last few years, it has been found that:

Separation is stronger with the younger generation.

The liberals are popular with old folks.

i won't continue in this thread because i just was here to share my vision of how things are, not to have a debate and to argue.
I've done that so many times on forums in the last 15 years to realize that it always ends in crap being thrown left and right, and it's not the best avenue to discuss the issue in a respectful and level headed way.

The youth always want to be independent. And then they learn the consequences of independence and suddenly the fire dies.

It is the immigrants who have come to Canada and live in Quebec that will ultimately make the difference.

I love a committed separatiste.

But it ain't gonna happen. Not democratically anyway.
