For someone that has such negative things to say about a show why on earth did you buy the series on DVD?

The show was filmed in Toronto Canada dumbass, and it was fictional, based on the BBC original. Hello?

Please keep calling yourself "bi" as you would be an embarrassment to the "gay" community.

Are you still searching for who shot JR?

VeepTrekker, you're complaining about it not being something it clearly didn't try to be.

It wasn't a documentary, docu-drama or even a realistic portrayal of every aspect of gay life, fat and thin, or of bisexuals or even of Pittsburgh. It was a soap opera episodic dramatization of one segment of gay life. Imagine if it had been a straight program about clubbing heteros, you wouldn't criticize it for not including Hyacinth Bucket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyacinth_Bucket).

If you take it for what it was, it was a lot of fun. Things I started not liking about it, I sort of got to appreciate. As I remember it, in the British version, the final episode faded in fantasy, which took some of the edge of the British verion of Brian Kinney. In the US version, although Brian Kinney still wasn't a realistic character for me, I thought it was interesting that he never stopped being a promiscuous barfly. Not saying that's good or a bad thing, but it was interesting dramatically, because you were rooting for him to be better than he was.

The program was a breaktrough in showing that gays on the nightclub circuit were human beings with the many of the same issues as everyone else and with some issue peculiar to them. Seeing the characters play to their stereotypes and against them was enjoyable.

Remembering the series, I think it's already a period piece in that people just know a lot more these days courtesy of pop phychology, Dr Phil, recovery programs or whatever. These days, I'd like to think that most folk, even on the party circuit, wouldn't waste too much time on emotionally abusive alcoholic druggies like Brian Kinney. But maybe the point is that they still do.

but more important

did you see me in like the third episode in babylon dancing

me be cute .......... me be very cute

Queer As Folk is a breakthrough. Before it, when did we see a gay drama catering to our community, and curious straight alike, of the gay issues?

When we watch straight dramas, do the issues shown make sense in this real world all the time? No. So, you have to give QAF a break.

You keep watching the sex scenes only. To me, there are still the human side stories - Brian and Justin's love, Michael's support, Debbie's straight life in a gay world, Lindsay and Mel's lesbian struggle, the harsh world for Ted and the flamboyant dilemmas for Emmet. True, the sex were there. But then again, are we really unlike them?

I may not score high like Brian, but I am ready to admit that the world in QAF exists. It's pointless to paint a saintly virgin world.

So. You hate the series that much, eh?

I'll PM you my postal address, so you can just mail on over those DVD's, so I can stop trying to find them!

Thanks ever so much!

In my admittedly limited experience in the gay scene, I have found that many blacks are gay and even more are bisexual. Queer As Folk apparently doesn't know that black people exist, whatever their sexual orientation might be. Scenes on the show would have you believe that blacks are rare in Pittsburgh and Toronto, they are not, nor would I want that to be the case. If Queer As Folk wanted to be realistic instead of being a sham, it would've shown the racial rainbow of Pittsburgh and the gay/bi community here.
They have had many episodes of Brian Kinney having sex with a black man. There were a few in the bar scenes.

I say just take QAF for what it is: entertainment. You can't expect a television show to represent everybody. Just like Friends had virtually no minority characters, despite being set in NYC. It's just a show. Unrealistic? Yes, but if it's entertaining...who cares?

I thought it was shit

The UK and US versions (well the few episodes of the US version i have seen)

Thats a different thing though

don't take this the wrong way, but your avatar is kinda frightening:eek:

anyway...
i know he's a HORRIBLE representation for the gay community, but i thought Brian Kinney was one of the SEXIEST men on screen. can't believe i kinda developed a crush on Hal Sparks. he annoyed the fucking shit outta me before QAF. actually his character was pretty damn annoying sometimes too. Robert Gant for personally is just SEX ON LEGS...i mean GODDAMN that's hot man right there!!!
The guy who played Ted was definately underrated hotness. Emmett kinda bugged me, but part of u can't help love him

If you're not looking for them to be what they're not, both the UK and the US series are good in different ways and well worth seeing.

The funny thing 2 me was about the show, was how some of the characters are straight ppl playing gay. Just like Will & Grace.

I think for many gays living out in rural America the show scared the shit out of us. If that is the 'gay community' then count me out. Give me a good movie, with a believable plot and characters any day.

It's entertainment people..It's TV. It's not the real world. It's not a documentary or based on a true person or people. It was a great drama. And I don't think cable TV will have another entertaining Gay show like QAF.

Lol, I think what you were referring to was his flashback, and that he "had" slept with that guy previously, and remembered it when he was in convenience store..

anywho, Ted got on my nerves a lot. I know i can be pessimistic at times, but damn! Some days I wanted to reach into the TV and slap the shit out of him..

He was CONSTANTLY down on himself...

Ben was my favorite... yowza!!! and he's gay in real life :P
