Queer As Folk

I watched the entire UK version and thought it was pretty good, but I wouldn't watch it a second time around. I only saw a few of the US ones but liked it a lot less. It seemed overdone and hollow compared to the UK series. It didn't help that they were mirroring the storyline of the UK series because I had already seen it, but done better.

I might have liked it better or at least given it more of a chance if they he'd gone their own way with it straight from the start.

Some shows that are brought across the pond are brilliant as they were intended to be just like "Queer as Folk" And sometimes the American version is better. Has anyone seen "Shameless" It's one of the best shows on Showtime.

This is an edited version to include only the gay storyline

I enjoyed the US version of QAF when it was in first run on Showtime. I think there were lots of writers (maybe too many) so the "flow" from episode to episode was not always as smooth as one might expect - a few "loose ends" resulted, but that was okay. I rented the UK version - thought it was more direct... as in less inhibited. Also I thought Charlie Hunnam was really cute. (Still is!) If someone here hasn't seen either, I would recommend both versions. ..|

though I watched it because addiction set in, every season I disliked it a bit more. By the end it was just ridiculous and the cliche's were overbearing.
All the glamor and even the minimum wage characters lived high on the hog., clubbing, partying, clothing,...... everything that could happen to a gay person happened to these guys from AIDS, adoption, malre prostitute, drug users, rich sugar daddy, gay bashing, buy a cool gay dance club I mean I need it more real...

I also liked the song Sexy Boy

However after seeing the A-Hole list NY I can say Queer as Folk Rocked!!!!!!!!!!

Why did you do that to me? Now I want to see more .

Its great but the british one is good in it's own way.

"The Black Hole of Calcutta" haha

FUCK

Now after missing weeds and nurse jackie.... i gotta get cable service or satellite...

Thanks...

Seriously that is a compelling show ...along with Dad being passed out in the kitchen ever scene he is in... lol

Still, a lot of American hit shows (and films) are watched around the world in their original format, even in some non-English speaking countries (they're usually just subtitled)...

Best example that I'm AWARE OF - which means there could be another American show with even more overseas syndication - was [STRIKE]Babewatch[/STRIKE] Baywatch. I seem to remember hearing that it was being shown in nearly every country in the world at one point, and I think it was always the American version rather than an imitation Baywatch from a different country.

dear we live in an internet age if you know what I mean :)

it's all out there for us to enjoy so we are not held captive by the cable companies.

This is what I'm getting at. Why do they need to remake Misfits? It's not about art, it's about.making money. This is the same kind of thinking that has Hollywood execs making sequels to movies like "Santa Clause" that hadn't been released in near a decade. Or making 3D versions of 80's cartoons instead of creating something new. Greedy sellouts.

On the other hand Ugly Betty has been produced seemly in almost every country. Each one different and tuned for that country.

Fixed that for ya. Honestly, I love indie queer cinema. If people took the time to actually explore and see what's out there, lame shows like QAF wouldn't be on the air for half as long.
I was definitely including indie gay films in my blanket statement. I don't think I've ever seen an indie film that portrayed as many actual sex acts as a typical episode of QAF. That's because they have to deal with the movie ratings system, which doesn't apply to premium cable shows.

If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'd love to see a movie that's full of hot gay sex (not counting porn films).

Yeah... but I hate the nasty little rabbit turds those programs leave behind on your hard drive... unless they have changed all the pirate software leaves tons of crap on your hard drive.

Why cant we just have a proper black market like in the Asian countries?

I've only seen bits and pieces of the US version so I never really got in to it.

I just started watching the US version six months ago. I have to say the show's pretty brave to graphically simulate many things for a mainstream TV. Unfortunately, the characters (except for Michael and Emmett), even though are representatives of gay culture (albeit a bit stereotypic) are somehow annoying, especially Justin (he is like a child who get addicted to honey and keep asking for more more and more). Perhaps I identify more to Ted and Michael (my favourite characters because Ted's a bit nerdy and Michael's a geek =P)

The storyline's pretty fine, highlighting many important gay issues, but it is highly unstable; in some episodes it's good and the next one is catastrophic.

I haven't watched the UK version so I can't say anything for comparison.

And kudos for Shameless. It's also a good show with a good emphasis on the gay plot. Again, I haven't watched the UK version, but seeing the spoiler tags that most of the family members leaving, leaving only the father and the brat, I don't think I want to watch the UK version.

Also, lately, The Big C also introduces gay plot, which is also good to show (they even have an episode including bear bars, lol).

Showtime is so good :)

Thanks for all the great feedback. :)

Hal Sparks said on my radio that he was headed for Europe (Germany, I think.) to appear at a QAF Convention. Kinda sorta like Star-Trek conventions, but not quite as frenetic. Perhaps there is life after cancellation.

I tried to watch the British version after I finished all five seasons of queer as folk, but I was turned off after the first episode; I guess it's due to the fact that in my mind, only Randy Harrison could be Justin Taylor and Gale Harold could be Brian Kinney. (Also has anyone noticed all the American actors are better looking than the British actors in Queer as folk?)

Disagree. Charlie Hunnam over Randy Harrison.
