Maybe this will get moved over to Music but I thought I'd start it here since it's kinda hot. I like edgy. I like avant-garde miracle garage bands.

But I live in a culturally-deprived part of the world. There are lots of bands that tour California over the years but they often don't stop in Bakersfield. They don't know what they're missing and...well, that's OK with them.

I was hoping to start a discussion about the various musicians mentioned in this Wiki article.

So, are there any dudes, past or present who knows about Pansy Division and other bands? Album recommendations? Present bands? British bands? Aussie? Canadian? NZ? European? Dutch? Antarctican??

Here are some band names to stimulate some memories: Fifth Column, God Is My Co-Pilot, Sister George, Team Dresch,Tribe 8 and Mukilteo Fairies.

Leftover Crack are pretty decent.
There was quite a lot of Queercore at one of the Festivals I was at this year. Some of them were shiiiit, but others were okay.

I'm not really "with it" on my Queercore.
i'll ask my friend tho, she's into it all.
She was dragging my along to see all these bands, at the Fest.. Personally cant remember their names, or if theyre from here, but some were good.
I'll see what she has to say, when I see here..

I'm really interested in Queercore and queer artists in general.

I posted on an lj group about finding out about some queer musician,s pecifically queercore.

I guess I'm just tired of singing the girl parts in songs. I want to sing a guy's part about liking guys.

Here's a rebuttal (sorta, lol) to the tired old notion that punk is anti-gay.
A lot of misguided punks might be that way but punk at its roots isn't.

Admittedly, I wish there were more like Extra Fancy.

Limp Wrist seems to have some good cred.
Mukilteo Fairies disbanded a long time ago but their music is "popular."

wouldn't it kind of make sense that they they wouldn't stop by in bakersfield. i mean, these punk bands live in a culture-like sense of anti-establishment; but bakersfield is one of the country capitals of the music world (and we all know country is usually a pretty traditionalist thing).

country and punk don't share a whole lot of similarities in style, content or people.

as for me:

i got most of pansy division's albums. i like their songs mostly for their content; but it's not really my thing. my music diet consists of a lot of mariachi, folk music and rap; so punk is a little off my radar. i bought their albums, though, to support their cause.

i enjoy it, but it's not my favorite

Well...actually. Ther're a lotta country boys and sons of country boys who just love to play music and they often go freak ala punk rock.
Plus there are a more than a few anti-establishment under-currents in Bakersfield and in the Bakersfield Sound; they tend to be people that get tired of the church-goers and so on.
Also, Bakersfield is the hometown of a band that grew-up out of the local punk milieu--ever hear of KORN?

But queercore bands? Nope. If they played at Jerry's Pizza (conceivable) I wasn't aware of 'em.

No KORN isn't punk, but when they were developing their sound they were local and everyone was moreorless punk back then around here.

I've seen Pansy Division several times over the years, but I don't think they play or tour much these days. The only problem is that I feel older and older every time I see the crowd that's watching them! When I was younger, I used to be more into the pop-punk musical style they do (that so-called "Lookout sound"), but now it's more for the content or nostalgia.

They have some excellent album art as well! I mean, hot boys in pajamas--genius!

The (extrememly hot) former guitar player from Pansy Division went and formed his own queer metal band called "Dirty Power".

They're amazing live, and Patrock is one of the hottest men on the face of the earth.
