k so i got tested on February 6th for HIV, I got my results back on February 22nd, and i was negative. It was a huge sigh of relief, and obviously the doctor didnt interview me or anything. The reason i got tested on the 6th even though im barely sexually active to begin with was because I had bareback sex on the 31st of January with this guy, and it lasted like 10mins, and I was a top (so i guess the risks are lower?.) However, i've been researching on this whole HIV thing recently, and read that the symptoms dont show until minimum 3months, and now it's like the same weight that i got off is back on. 3 months from that day would be April 31st. It has been a month and a half and I dont have any of the symptoms of HIV that were mentioned, i have still a huge appetitie, i have no soar throat, no swollen glands, no fatigue, fever, night sweats... nothing, But then again they said 10-60% of the people dont even know they have HIV, cause they will have no symptoms. Should I worry? Or am I overreacting? i mean this is the 21st century right? so things may have changed?

Thanks guys :)

You go get retested again in a month, and month after .

And this point forward NEVER have sex with out condoms. You can see what it did to your mind in just this short period, imagine what it does to the body...

so then u guys think that the whole test results of me being negative are not accurate?

Oh for fuck's sake.

Your info is so out-dated I swear you're reading from a pamphlet published in 1987.

Tests are much more accurate now and can tell you in days if you're infected. You don't start to show symptoms sometimes for years. You've tested negative and if you REALLY want to beat the horse to death, get tested again at 6 months. But the chances of it taking that long are... rare.

Now don't do it again.

Is that true? I went to the clinic after something happened and they made me wait 3 months to take the HIV test. Was a complete nightmare.

Depends on the kind of testing you do.

The kind you get for free at the gay and lesbian center is looking for something different and can take up to three months to show an accurate result.

The kind we use for porn shoots are more expensive but are looking for the virus itself and are accurate in three days.

We use the Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This test finds either the genetic material RNA of HIV. PCR testing is not done as frequently as antibody testing because it requires technical skill and expensive equipment. This test may be done in the days or weeks after exposure to the virus. Genetic material may be found even if other tests are negative for the virus. The PCR test is very useful to find a very recent infection, determine if an HIV infection is present when antibody test results were uncertain, and screen blood or organs for HIV before donation.

The Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is the other kind. This test is usually the first one used to detect infection with HIV. If antibodies to HIV are present (positive), the test is usually repeated to confirm the diagnosis. If ELISA is negative, other tests are not usually needed. This test has a low chance of having a false result after the first few weeks that a person is infected.

omg man thanks so much, i was really worried, cause not only was it stuff I read, but i asked friends who work in this field, and they said it usually takes 3 months to tell, 4 weeks in some cases, and 6months is 100% accurate.... ahhhhh i wanna scream for joy, im so happy man, thanks a lot!!! :D

But is the real problem that you actually think you're infected or are you maybe feeling some guilt... cuz if so... don't... it's your body... do with it as you want.

oh its definately guilt, and the fear of not knowing, i mean i was pettrified that i went to get tested right away, and i was sooooooo happy when the results were negative, but then i read the stuff on it etc and then bam i got scared again

oh wait no now im worried again, i didnt get tested at the gay and lesbian center, but at a walk in clinic, it was free though.... wow i hate that mind keeps playing tricks on me, why am i such a fragile person :(

Same thing.

there's only two kinds of tests.

Listen, we've all been through it, it's part of being sexually active is learning the risks, taking precautions, accepting responsibility.

the chances of getting infected from topping once without a condom are low... under 1%.. but they're there.

You got your negative result two months after you had sex... you're most likely in the clear but for your sake, just set your mind at ease and get tested again in a month or two.

You know this is about more than JUST your fear of infection, right? How old are you and how long have you been out and sexually active?

Oh wait.. you waited two WEEKS.

Yeah, not really long enough for the free kind of test to really give you an accurate result. You can either spring for the more expensive kind now or just wait a few weeks. Just to be sure.

But really... you need to really learn from this experience. I used to go into panic mode every time a condom broke or a guy would cum on my face. It did me no good.

Now calm down, take a big deep breath and know that even if you ARE HIV+ (which is unlikely), it's not the end of the world and you're still going to live a nice long life.

no i got tested a week after i had bareback sex, then i got my results 2 weeks after so techically 3 weeks after i had bareback sex i got my results...., not 2 months. how can the tests they do for porn shoots be more accurate than the clinic ones? I think HIV testing should be free, not something that people should bring money into? Anyways i was 19 when i started with the whole curosity of being with guys, im 21 now...so its been 2 years and a half pretty much

(oh.. but all those symptoms you're looking for? Stop looking for them... those don't magically appear in 6 weeks... those generally take a VERY long time to start to show up. It's just your nerves doing that)

Well if you read the explanation of the tests themselves.. the more accurate tests are more expensive because they're more difficult to perform. The "free" tests of course aren't free, they're paid for by the city or donations. They choose the cheaper ones so more people can be tested.

But I'm with you on Government-funded health care. Trust me, I'm with you on that.

Sadly, you did jump the gun a bit and you'll have to wait a bit longer to be sure.

Fuck knows I've made my drunken mistakes before and condoms have broken and shit happens. Like I said, chances of being infected from fucking one guy bareback are less than 1%. Do you know the guy? Is he HIV+?

but should i worry?

No. It's not going to do you any good to worry. At this point what you should be doing is learning from your mistake.

You should be a responsible man and just get checked out let's say... the last day of April. But until you have an answer.. there's really no point in getting all worked up. Chances of infection aren't very high and let this be your lesson.

Or go to your doctor now and ask for the PCR test and have your answer in a couple days.

The Adult Industry will test non-industry people and can set up the tests. Depending on where you live in can cost you up to $200.

You can also check out www.talenttestingservice.com which costs less but it more limited depending on where you are.

well i met the guy on manhunt, he was 10min walkin distance from my place so im like sure come over, hes like what u into ? im like kissing cuddling etc not sure about anal hes like i wanna do anal, im a bottom, im like well it depends on the mood, anyways we met at like i think 4:00am lol, he came over, and we were dry humping, i think i teased way too much that eventually we both gave into the temptation.... i asked him when was the last time u got tested... he said decemeber, but he was really persistant on being fucked bb, and i felt really vulnerable considering i was 3/4th asleep... i have no idea if he is HIV+ he told me he is negative.... though i donno if people would lie about that?
