I just got out of the shower, and noticed my left testicle looked odd. Looked "lumpy" and it was drooping down more than usual. I felt around and it feels like there is a twisted, lumpy type thing that goes vertical and it's above the testicle. The right testicle feels nothing like the left. The right is the size of a walnut, is smooth, and there is nothing else around it. I am really worried about this.

I don't know why I have never noticed this before. I think it's because I took a long hot shower and it loosened up things, and I wasn't in a hurry to go to work so I dried off in front of the mirror and saw it.

Can I go to any local clinic to have this looked at or do I need to go to a specialist? I'm not looking forward to it.... :(

You should have a doctor check it out or the local clinic.

Hey there dude
sorry to hear about your problem,if i was you i would go to your local clinic just to be on the safe side side.
You dont mention if you are having any pain in your testicle ?
There could be a few things that can cause these sympton,s , if you are having pain then you should get it seen to asap, asa there is a condition called Torsion
of the testicle, this basicaly entails the testicle getting itself in a knot, though i dont think that this is the problem.
It could be something as simple as overuse, put your mind at rest and get it seen to. Good , Adam x

From most of the pictures in biology books, it makes it appear that the testes are hanging like Christmas tree ornaments in the scrotum. It's more accurate to say that it's like two eggs hanging on the inside of two plastic shopping bags which are then on the inside of a leather purse (the leather purse being the scrotum).

Each testis has a fibrous sac around it- like a plastic shopping bag. This fibrous sac also contains the muscles that move the testis up and down, a blood supply and a tube (called the vas deferens) that allows sperm to pass into holding areas inside the pelvis. So, that vertical thing that you're feeling is that fibrous sac around the testicle along with the muscle/artery/vein/vas deferens.

It is normal for one testicle to hang lower than the other, especially after a hot shower or bath. Only about 25-30% of men have both testes hanging in the same position. There may also be a slight difference in size.

The only thing that sounds unusual is your statement that you never noticed a difference in the feel of the two testes before. That is probably something that you should have your doctor evaluate. If you haven't had a physical exam in a while, it is a good time to schedule one and while you're there, mention the difference so that your doctor can do an exam to ensure that there's nothing abnormal.

hey i know were your coming from i found a lump down there this year get checked out asap i did and found out that it was a sist in the epididymis and all was fine had to go in for an operation but there was nothing to be worried about

I just say go to the doctor asap but honestly, it can be everything. I think it's unprobable that you got a testes cancer. It is quite rare and it manifests as a hard little lump in the testis. So it's probably else. But don't freak too much. Usually things are very curable especially if u go to the doctor soon.

Good luck and pls keep us informed.

Caveat: I am not a doctor.

I have had some issues myself down there and from experience and what you have described so far and from what I can see in your pictures, the problem seems to be with your epididymis rather than the actual testicle. As others have said, go see your doctor. If it is (extremely) painful then do not wait until Monday but go to the ER ASAP.

Guys, it's been a week since I went to the doctor, and he told me I had epididymitis. He gave me antibiotics for 7 days, and it has done absolutely nothing to make this go away. I'm pretty sure just from looking at the pictures, that I have a varicocele. All of the veins and everything above my left testicle are swollen.

It's really starting to make me mad because he told me my problem was the result of an STD

Somehow I missed your pictures when you posted them on the 22nd.

You're correct. That's very classic varicocele.

Anyone who has had epididymitis will tell you that it's something that you definitely know you have. It's like being kicked in the nuts.

The low-hanging on the left is normal. The knotty appearance is not. A varicocele can exacerbate a normally low hanging testis and it appears that is what is going on here.

Unless you're planning on having children, a varicocele is not a serious condition. It does result in infertility in a lot of men.

Go see a urologist. And consider changing family physicians- the one you're seeing seems to have slept through med school.

Here's some typical pictures of a varicocele:

I just got my bill in the mail, for $2,700 DOLLARS. Insurance paid $1,900.

What the HELL? I didn't get the correct diagnosis, and the medicine he prescribed me did absolutely NOTHING to help bring down the swelling.

How do I fight this bill? And now I'm really mad because of the embarrassment I went through as he and his staff basically had me convinced I had an STD.

After cooling down, and thinking about it, there's nothing I can really do about the bill. The ultrasound is the major part of the bill is my guess. If I wanted to prove a misdiagnosis I would have to go spend more money at another doctor.

I guess all I can do is walk in and start a payment plan.

Fuck.

Remember as well that the ultrasound is a very important part of the testing as it helps exclude testicular cancer.
It's a shame that medicine is so expensive for you guys in the states. Here in Australia almost all the testing, except for maybe $100 our of pocket, is paid for by the government.
I agree that this pic looks like a variocele basically a varicose vein of the spermatic chord.
That said in all young blokes I recommend blood tests (bHCG, Alpha FP, LDH) and an ultrasound to exclude testicular cancer, plus urine test to exclude chlamydia and gonorrhoea as they are common, easy to catch and easy to treat.
