Question for Toronto Jubbers

I’m planning on leaving Ottawa for a few days during my reading week and will most likely be staying with a friend in Toronto. From the 12th of February to the 17th, or there about. I’m trying to come up with things to do, but as I don’t really know the city, I’m not getting very far in making a list.

I know for sure that I want to visit Casa Loma and go shopping for vintage clothes at Cabaret. That’s pretty much all so far. He’ll work on Tuesday the 16th, which would give me time to explore the city on my own. I think I’ll saunter over to the Village. But even then, I’m pretty much clueless as to what I’d do. Although knowing me, if I’m to do like I’d do in Ottawa, I’ll probably find a café, sit down with schoolwork/a novel and hope some cute guy would notice me.

What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I like the new Art Gallary of Ontario at Dundas and Beverley. Or the ROM is always cool when you're bored, Avenue and Bloor.

Shopping in Yorkville.

Now I'm out of ideas.haha

If you're scientifically inclined, you owe yourself a trip to the Science Centre. The ROM is great, too, as is a ride up the glass elevator in the CN Tower.

There is Body Work exhibition going on in Science Center if you are interested. Other than that, like above poster, I'm as well running out of idea. Toronto sucks big time in winter - majority of attractions are closed during that time.

Dude uhm just reach downtown the nightlifes pretty good. Just walk around with French Vanilla in hand and your set! Theres a cool Jazz bar DT called the rex go skate at nathan phillips hahahah

Hmmm... that's a good question...

Well if you're looking to window shop I would suggest either Yorkville for higher end stuff or Kennsington Market for tredy but way too overpriced stuff...

There is always Queen West... Lots of great shops and bars... Plus there's a place called Poutinis which has the city's best Poutine if you like that.

The village...while it has been a traditional place for us gays to be is starting to lose a lot of ground... quite a few places are starting to go under so you may get pretty bored pretty quickly unless you want to go out at night. At which I would suggest Fly if you like to dance, Woody's if you like a go bar, Black Eagle if you're into bears and daddys, Steamworks if you want a good bathhouse.

As for other more touristy things to do ... the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) currently has a King Tut exhibit going on until March. Always plenty to see and do along Yonge St. The Science Centre, Casa Loma, and the CN Tower are also good attractions. Can't go wrong with the ROM either. Catch a show at Buddies in Bad Times in the Village. Or head out to Centre Island.

You can also check out all the sub-cultural places such as Little Italy, Little India, Greektown, and Chinatown.

I went to the CN Tower and the ROM as a kid. Although the tower doesn't have a huge appeal on me, I wouldn't mind returning to the ROM. Do they still have a section on Egypt or was it a temporary exhibit? I remember it being the highlight of my trip when I went there in 2nd grade. I might check out the AGO as well.

Any good shows playing in February? I keep missing everything that comes to the NAC in Ottawa, so I figure if there's something I want to see that's playing in Toronto, might as well see it!

I doubt I'll be hitting the nightlife at all. My friend usually goes out to straight bars whereas I don't. And I certainly don't see myself ambling alone in the streets of Toronto to try to get back to his place at night should I ever decide to go out. I probably wouldn't go out clubbing on my own anyway: I'm far too shy and insecure for that. Then again... last time I went out clubbing in Toronto, three guys hit on me. It took me aback as it never happens in Ottawa. I do so love the decisiveness of Toronto guys.
