I consider myself a versatile top. I prefer topping, but I can and do enjoy bottoming on occasion. As such, I prefer a versatile bottom as a partner, simply because it would best coincide with what I like. If he were a total bottom, I wouldn't mind that at all, although I'd presumably ask if would mind topping once in a blue moon. If he were a total top, then we might have some issues. I have a feeling if I loved him enough in other ways, we'd make it work. It probably would mean a lot of oral. :)

It would be very tough for me as well. I really like to top but once in a while it's fun to flip.

We did some damage to each other a couple of weeks ago and my bf can't bottom comfortably right now...so, I am taking one for the team till his butt is better.

It would be a deal-breaker for me. I couldn't give up half of my sex life because my partner didn't get it. Giving up versatility and getting stuck in a top or bottom rut actually defeats the point of being gay in my mind, and makes it seem like an imitation of heterosexuality. I know many people don't feel that way, but before I came out and met other gay people, I had absolutely zero idea that anyone else would disagree with me. Versatility just seems obvious and universal. I actually didn't believe there were "tops" and "bottoms" and though I understand it intellectually, I honestly still don't get it. To me at least, versatility is essential.

BTW, I've wondered how to ask this question in a poll, and you've figured it out. For whatever reason, I could never figure out how to word it.

I am primarily a top but, have and would bottom for the right guy. I had a boy friend who I really liked that was afraid to bottom. He couldn’t relax enough for me to get in him and I wasn’t going to force or make a big deal out of it so, I bottomed. Currently, my partner is a bottom only. If I like the guy it does if I am a top or bottom.

I could be with either but I need the guy to inspire me so I can function the way I'm suppose to with them. FOr example: A petit guy who is a top would be a huge turn off for me, I'de rather have a big masculine top and a more petit, slim bottom.

I was with Gary for 4 years and he was a total top. As much as I tried to nail his ass he wouldnt let me. I prefer a vers guy. But I was in love, blah blah blah.

Sex is suppose to be give and take just like a relationship.

If you're in love with them they should be willing to do things for you even if they don't really want to.

I wouldn't mind doing something I didn't enjoy sexually for someone I was in love with because I would be doing it for them because I care about them. I expect the same in return...damn it. :)

All my past LTRs were with guys who were exclusively 'bottom' or exclusively 'top'. Years ago I was okay with being the one who always compromised ... but now, in the the unlikely event that I ever enter into an LTR again, I would want variety, versatility, and plenty of give 'n' take.

Additional note: (almost) all of the 'exclusive tops' that I have known appear to have had problems with their sense of 'masculinity' ... whcih seems to have been the main reason that they didn't like taking it up the arse.

I'm a versatile bottom. 90% of the time, I do the bottoming. But once in a while, I just have to be the top.
Relationships are are about give and take and once in a while, your partner should be willing to do the taking.

If I was in love with the guy, I wouldn't mind going exclusively top or bottom. I prefer versatility. I'm more of a top, but I like being on the bottom as well.

It would be hard for me to be with someone who's a complete top or bottom. I'd need to be with a vers guy..even one who bottoms or tops once in awhile is better for me.

I don't think I could enjoy or endure a sexual relationship based on sex.

It is just not my strong suit, nor what I find important in life.

I want a sexual relationship to be an extension of my love for and attraction to another man, not the center of it. At my age, and with so much else on the table, including the prospect of health and appearance changes that would impact physicality, I'd hate having a relationship based on sex.

My goal is to share life, and sex along with it, not to select with that qualification as the top of the pyramid/hierarchy.

I agree with this in principle; but in practice, I'm more inclined to agree with bankside.

I'd want some versatility in the bedroom...even if the roles were skewed in either direction.

If the guy wasn't willing to compromise his needs/role in the bedroom somewhat...I don't imagine he'd be the type to make compromises outside of the bedroom either. He'd have to want to put my needs ahead of his own..at least occasionally.

I'm versatile and so is my partner. I wouldn't want it any other way.

What if you're with a guy who can't top/bottom, even if he wanted to? Maybe it's a medical issue, or physical, or he just can't sexually function that way.

Sorry its taken me so long to reply to you, Quanchi.

I overlooked this reply, but to anwser your question I would never make my guy do something sex wise that would cause him physical pain.

I just meant that if he wanted a blowjob or something like that and I wasn't really turned on by that then I would still do it for him because I love him. That sort of thing.

I didn't mean I would want him to do something he couldn't do.

[vers] top here.

I could be with a total bottom. I couldn't be with someone who's a total top. I'd prefer a vers-bottom.

I want a guy that will flip-flip once in a while. Sometimes a girl needs to get fucked ;)

I would have preferred versatile but it was difficult for him to bottom and then it became my favorite position -- so it all worked out great.

I'm like those who said there is much more to a relationship and sex was (an important) part of it.
