I was wondering how long after a possible exposure to HIV and STD's should I wait to get tested?
Right away
...but soemtimes the virus can take 6-8 weeks to show up in your blood work so you should remain absinent in that time and then get tested again
There is no need to remain absinent in that time ... just wear a condom.
The only reason you would get tested right away is if the sexual contact was unsafe. If you were unsafe (and I am talking anal unsafe) and the incident was within 72 hours you could be eligible for Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). Not all countries offer PEP.
This first test would be a baseline test and you would need to be tested again in 3-6 months.
If the sexual intercourse was whilst using a condom and there was no condom breakage then getting tested in three months would be fine.

The OP may also wish to check this thread out for further information about testing
Here's my situation: About a month ago I had oral sex with a guy I met. A few days ago we met and had oral sex again. He said he was tested a couple of months ago and was clean. We didn't use condoms when we had oral sex. I want to get tested just to be sure that I'm clean. I was wondering if for some reason he wasn't clean and I got whatever it is from him, how long it would take to show up in a HIV/STD test.
There is no reason to worry, oral sex is a low risk activity. Everybody should get tested once or twice a year regularly, but you shouldn't have to run to the clinic after every sucking. It would be more reasonable to suck him off again instead![]()
Oral without a condom is low risk for HIV. It is not low risk for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV and other STDs.
OP can have a throat swab done if he has a reason to suspect that his partner might have been infected.
What are the chances of HIV being in precum?
