I have these little red spots on my arm that appeared about a month ago. Back in October, I had oral sex with an HIV+ guy. Is this a sign of HIV? I read in the HIV thread that Oral Sex is a low risk and I didn't see "red spots on the skin" as a symptom. Am I overreacting about something that's nothing? I haven't had flu-like symptoms either.

I didn't know he was + until after I came on his chest. But I just read the HIV thread today and it said oral sex is a low risk of transmission so I'm semi-relieved. I don't know what these red spots are though.

Its kinda hard to get a pic of them because they are so small and scattered around my upper arm.

First of all, unless you intend to pay for the expensive test that tests for the virus itself, it usually takes 6wks to 3 months from the time of exposure for the test to be able to detect the antibodies in your system.

With that said there are three tests that I know of.

the normal blood sample from the arm taken with a butterfly needle (probably the one you're afraid of). Results take from 3 days to 2 weeks depending on the lab/clinic you go to.

Prick test 1. The "prick" test, where they prick the end of your finger and either place it in three little dots that they send of for testing (3 days to 2 weeks for results) OR

Prick test 2. rapid prick test, where they prick your finger and then put on some little plastic thing that reminds me of a pregnancy test, this one gets results in 20 min.

Oral swab, (another rapid test) where they swab your gums and test that, normally takes 15-20 min.

if it says rapid that means blood (prick), oral means the rapid oral swab. Also note in Florida you can get ANONYMOUS testing, but check to make sure the place you're going offers it.

If you're planning on going to a normal doctor then they'll probably do the 1st one (draw blood and send to a lab).

The rapid ones I've only found at the free HIV testing clinics around here.

It's also worth noting that ff they have the prick test make sure to drink lots of fluids several hours before you go, so you'll bleed well (sounds bad but it's really not). They pricked me and we spent 20 min trying to get blood and only managed to fill 1 dot out of 3! finally they said screw it and got one of their "emergency" rapid oral swab test kits

LOL.... I doubt you didn't bleed b/c you didn't drink water. More likely b/c you were nervous or your hands were cold. No need to drink excess fluids to bleed.

Generally true. In the early stages, you don't know it. But, you can get a primary viral syndrome from HIV early. Basically it just feels like a normal cold.

Ultimately, I don't think the spots are a sign of HIV. But the only way to be sure is to see a doctor. Also, your risk changes a bit depending on if you were the oral sex top or bottom... but both are low risk. And since it's been over three months, you don't need the expensive test.

There are no set signs or symptoms that someone has seroconverted and is now HIV+. The only way to tell is to have a blood test.

Generally, rashes on the upper arm have two causes- an allergic reaction (dermatitis) or acne.

It's highly unlikely that it is connected in any way to your sexual encounter.

For your peace of mind, you should go have an HIV test- this would be recommended regardless of the rash.

If the rash continues, then you should see a dermatologist for a diagnosis.

Well, see that's the thing. He insists he told me and we gave each other head because he did tell me it is a low risk, but I remember just jerking off with him. So maybe his memory's fried or something because I plainly remember jerking off with him while watching porn.
