Questions to gays who perform oral on heterosexual friends

Yes, you should. Don't ever push sex on friends unless you KNOW for sure they're curious about it. It's not worth it. You're going to damage your friendship and reputation if you do that.

But like I said, is Turkey a safe place to be out? I mean, isn't homosexuality against the law there?

No it's not against the law. There are even famous out of the closet gays (mostly singers). But of course gays don't have a good reputation and most gays are in the closet not because of safety but rather because they don't want to be made fun of.

Oh ok.

I figured it might be against the law because much of the middle east is very, very against gays.

Keep in mind that Turkey is a Republic, not an Islamic state. Their laws are not Sharia.

Turkey plays a very passive-aggressive game with gay people, though.

Unlike other countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt, gay people aren't sent to prison (or worse, executed), Turkey is tolerant of homosexuals as long as they're married and keep their man-on-man stuff on the down-low.

The only openly gay people that I ever met in Turkey were drag queens or singer/actors. Turks love the trannies. There's a very famous MTF transsexual who is a pop singer.

On the other hand, I met quite a few married men who had boyfriends and long-term lovers. But that's more common in the big cities like Istanbul or the resort areas like Bodrum. You won't find an openly gay person in Anatolia (Anadolu-which to Turkey is what Mississippi is to the US).

It's the out and proud gay people that they hate. And with the new government that is in power, it will only get worse.

So what happens to people who are openly gay? Are they just treated badly but can still go about their lives in peace to some degree?

Jamaica and most of the Middle East seem like the worst place to be gay.

Think of it this way- the Middle East has a history of groups of people who live together in a tribal culture. So, anyone who doesn't fit into the group is ostracized from the group.

In Turkey, gay men are viewed much like gay men were viewed in the US back in the 1950s. I have heard women telling their boy children to watch out for "bad men" in public restrooms and using the word for "fag" in the same sentence. It's very likely that your family will disown you or they will force you into a marriage with a woman. Very effeminate gay men are mocked and find it difficult to find employment.

On the other hand, masculine gay men who marry and have families and who "play the game" are treated well. You'll hear whispers about "the boy" or "special friend" regarding the boyfriend but as long as it is on the down-low, it's ignored. The same is true of married men who have female mistresses. It's not too different from the same conduct in small towns in the US- lots of whispering but no one says anything in polite company as long as it is discreet.

Homophobia tends to be worse in the interior of the country. Generally, the rule is that any area near the water tends to be more tolerant.
