Quick Question about Shaving Pubic Hair

I haven't shaved my pubes in a very long time since the first and last time I did it my pubic area became extremely itchy and I itched the area to the point where I scratched a hole in my jeans, so I decided never to shave there again. Now I've gotten to the point where all this hair around my dick has just become an annoyance and I want to get rid of it. I have an electric shaver with me but I heard that using electric shavers are discouraged because of the irritation it causes (I used an electric shaver my first time shaving my pubes btw). I understand I should probably cut my hair with a trimmer/scissors before shaving, and it's what I did the first time shaving my pubes. Should I go out and buy a traditional razor just to shave my pubes? Or can I just do it with my electric razor without being irritated after? Also, I've never shaved with a traditional shaver before so I'm really hoping there's a way I can shave with using an electric razor.
 
Just a thought but why shave at all when nicely trimming it is so much easier? I shaved once and I'll never do it again. It just becomes a hassle. I like trimming. Anyway...just my opinion.
 
I agree. Pubes equal manliness unless you want to be perceived as a twin. A nicely trimmed bush is so much better looking.
 
How do I go about trimming my pubes as opposed to shaving them?
 
I agree with the other guys, trim but don't shave. You can pick up a small electric clipper at most drug stores or WalMart for under 20 bucks. A good one will cost a little more but will more then likely have an adjustable feature so that you can trim real close or leave the pubes a little longer. I picked up a Norelco_Phillips "groomer" with a clipper feature on one end and a shaver feature on the other for around $60 at Amazon. It works well as I have chest hair that needs to be trimmed from time to time and the adjustable guide on the clipper part lets me trim to the same length every time.
 
Even when we grow a beard the itching until it is in is horrendous I know longer bother but due trim.
 
Where lots of guys go wrong is running the clippers against the skin to remove all of the hair. That was a look that was popular with gay guys a decade ago and has fallen out of favor. These days, a more natural or trimmed look is more popular. There are guys who like the bare look (and you may find yourself dating one someday), but if you look at more recent gay porn, guys have hair and it's not sculpted like topiary.

If you don't go too short, you won't get the red bumps (folliculitis) and you won't have the bristles that tend to make things itchy down there.

Several manufacturers make body groomers which are smaller versions of clippers that have a guard that you can put over the blades to adjust for length in areas where you might want to keep things a little longer. You can always grab the hair between the fingers of your left hand while you trim it slightly with the right hand. Again, the emphasis is "trim" not "clipper bare".
 
I have a Philips Bodygroom Pro. I completely shave my balls but only trim the hair just above my cock.

Once I shaved everything but I didn't like it.

The Phillips Body Groomers that gayjohnd recommended gets good reviews if you clipper on a regular basis or you can buy a beard/body clipper that has a set of guards. The key is just to go shorter- if you cut too close to the skin, you're more likely to get a rash or itching.
 
Norelco body groomer, has a guard for longer cuts, with out it it shaves smooth with out nicking the hangers.
Works great. Phillips may now own this company.
