It could only happen to me...

I mind my own business, try to live a fairly quiet life these days, but it seems like fate loves to sneak up on me, and put me into situations outside of my comfort zone.

I like to walk the mall on Saturday mornings. During the summer, they have a nice farmer's market in the parking lot, and then I go inside, to the air conditioned relief of the mall , from the sultry, humid outdoors.

I had just come out of Sears, which is where I park because it's close to the farmer's market, and was walking down the mall, heading in the direction of Macy's. From the side, I hear, "Hey! Ron!" I turned and saw my ex, Dave.

Now Dave and I have been civil to each other, but since the second break-up last year, we haven't exactly been hanging out together either.

Damn, he looked so fine! He'd just had a haircut, and his brown hair was perfect. Those hazel eyes...stunning. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue basketball shorts, and white sneakers (no socks). He looked at least ten years younger than his age of 41. I must have looked like his father, standing next to him.

We stood there chit-chatting in front of Barnes and Noble for about 20 minutes. I tried to excuse myself, saying that I was going to walk the mall. He asked if he could walk along with me. I told him "Sure, why not." Together we did two laps around the perimeter of Greece Ridge, which is the equivalent of one-half-mile from end to end. I allowed myself a few lusty feelings, watching him walk, seeing those sexy legs of his, and his muscled ass. As we reached our end point for the second toime, I stopped and sat down on a bench.

"That was fun!" he said. "How about letting me buy you lunch today?"

I politely refused.

"It's only lunch, Ron. Come on!"

Well, you know what a push-over I am for him, so reluctantly, I agreed.

We walked over to Critic's which is a little family style diner in the mall, and had lunch. We talked some more. No, he's not in a relationship with anyone these days. Yes, he did pay. I thanked him for a nice time, and as we parted ways, he reached over and placed quick kiss on my forehead. I was stunned!

Then he gave me one of his killer smiles and said "I just felt like it..."

So now the question that comes to my mind is, "Did I lead him on to some false hope that we are going to get back together?" Or "Am I making something out of nothing? It was just lunch with the ex, with no expectations for more."

Just when I think that I have had enough distance, and I am feeling like my feelings for him are a part of the past, he comes waltzing back into my life like a sweet temptation, and proves me wrong again.

Despite the feelings stirring inside of me, there is still the matter of trust. My trust in him his still broken. Until I get past that, if I ever can, nothing goes further than it already has.
