Quotable quotes

“The sky is everywhere, it begins at your feet.”

― Jandy Nelson

“I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.”

James Baldwin, born August 2, 1924

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967

“Take the back roads instead of the highways.”

― Minnie Pearl

". . . and, dear gods of GPS, grant us no more than a degree of sobriety that will allow us to just barely know the difference.

Amen"

“Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost.”

― Erol Ozan

“When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movements become headlong - faster and faster and faster. They put aside all thoughts of obstacles and forget the precipice does not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it's too late.”

— Frank Herbert, Dune

“It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.”

― Leonardo da Vinci

“Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.”

― Bertrand Russell, Unpopular Essays

"Nobody is an atheïst in a foxhole."

I reject atheïsm because of the simple reason that while the existence of God cannot be proved by theïsts, presuming the non-existence of God is doing exactly the same as what atheïsts most criticized theïst for: claiming to have absolute knowledge that enables their claim.

Rejecting bogus theology is -of course- something else.

But I much enjoyed reading the first part of the (auto)biography of Bertrand Russell.

“To teach how to live without certainty, and yet without being paralyzed by hesitation, is perhaps the chief thing that philosophy, in our age, can still do for those who study it.”

― Bertrand Russell, A History of Western Philosophy

Sent someone a meme? You progressed your relationship. Drew a doodle? You progressed your art skill. Took a bath? You progressed your mental health.
