Quotable quotes

It's good to see it back. The one I started was redundant.

We can die now.

“I know that I am mortal by nature, and ephemeral; but when I trace at my pleasure the windings to and fro of the heavenly bodies I no longer touch the earth with my feet: I stand in the presence of Zeus himself and take my fill of ambrosia” ― Ptolemy

"we gonna fight - and I aint gonna lose" -my father

"Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things."

What's your favorite quote, by someone famous or even one jus by you

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'd like to change his quote to "go instead where there is no path and leave no trace"

Jonathon Swift:

Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.

“I know that I am mortal by nature, and ephemeral; but when I trace at my pleasure the windings to and fro of the heavenly bodies I no longer touch the earth with my feet: I stand in the presence of Zeus himself and take my fill of ambrosia” ― Ptolemy

Thank you for this quote. It brought to mind this passage from Niccolo' Machiavelli's famous letter to Francesco Vettori:

"When evening comes, I return home and enter my study; on the threshold I take off my workday clothes, covered with mud and dirt, and put on the garments of court and palace. Fitted out appropriately, I step inside the venerable courts of the ancients, where, solicitously received by them, I nourish myself on that food that alone is mine and for which I was born; where I am unashamed to converse with them and to question them about the motives for their actions, and they, out of their human kindness, answer me. And for four hours at a time I feel no boredom, I forget all my troubles, I do not dread poverty, and I am not terrified by death. I absorb myself into them completely."

In reading this, it is helpful to picture that Machiavelli was at this time exiled from Florence, and living at his father's farm in the hills south of the city in San Casciano.

Ptolemy was undoubtedly one of the ancients with whom he conversed.

I would agree - it seems quite evident that Ptolemy was among Machiavelli's ancients - as we approach Samhain the veil is thinnest - may we all be so blessed to find ourselves in that Court - even if just a Jester....

Because I think someone here needs to hear this

“You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things with magic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you.

Warren Buffet

Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I’m not living.
