Quotable quotes

”If you crush a cockroach, you're a hero. If you crush a beautiful butterfly, you're a villain. Morals have aesthetic criteria."

This quote reminds me of a joke I once heard. A mean boy and his father go on an outing to a nearby park. The boy sees a beautiful butterfly, and he imediatley steps on it.

"For doing that, you will have no butter for a year," scolds the father.

The two go on, and encounter a honeybee pollinating the flowers. The boy promptly jumps on the bee, killing it.

"And for that," says the stern father, "you will go without honey for a year."

They return home. The boy's mother is in the kitchen, and they witness her killing a cockroach.

"Do you want to tell her, or should I," asks the boy to his father?

You don’t ask people with knives in their stomachs what would make them happy; happiness is no longer the point. It’s all about survival; it’s all about whether you pull the knife out and bleed to death or keep it in.
