John Lennon's first wife Cynthia dies from cancer

Cynthia Lennon, first wife of The Beatles' John Lennon, has died at her home in Spain, her family has announced.

A message on her son Julian's website said she died "following a short but brave battle with cancer".

It said: "Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers."

Julian also tweeted a picture of his mother, who was 75, inside a heart with the message "In Loving Memory".

Lennon was born Cynthia Lillian Powell in Blackpool on 10 September 1939.

She grew up in Hoylake with her parents and two elder brothers and started at Liverpool College of Art in 1957.

Cynthia met Lennon at art school when he tapped her on the back in class and simply said "Hi, I'm John".

(^ Living in Spain?

That picture shows a resemblance (in profile) to her late husband)

And now shes Cynthia in the Sky with Diamonds. R.I.P. She took all the crap John threw at her better than most.

She was John's first wife.
She was Julian's devoted mother.
To my knowledge, she never publicly bad-talked John.
When John married Yoko Ono, she kept a stiff upper lip, in the grand British tradition.
She was a lady in the finest sense of the word...

RIP Cynthia Lennon...

I listened to an interview with her from 1985 on Fresh Air. She sounds rather startlingly chill about being abandoned by her husband, publicly accused of adultery, and having to fight for custody of her son. JOhn Lennon left Julian nothing in his will. (Not exactly true there was a 100,000 dollar Bastard fund intended to stop any random children John may have fathered on the road from suing the estate, Julian is eldest son was allowed to benefit from this, but until he actually sued in the 90's he was left without provision. I dislike Mr Lennon after these discoveries.)
