R.I.P DVD's?

YOU DONT NEED TO STORE THEM ON YOUR HARD DRIVE

they will be on servers and you will download what you want when you want

since internet connections will be very fast you will be able to watch it while ur downloading

SHIT i can do that NOW

Well good for you.

Not everyone can afford the technology. And no, "almost everyone" won't have the technology in a few years because it'll take a long time for the prices to come down enough to make that possible. There will ALWAYS be physical media for both music and movies for that very reason. The masses are just now getting around to buying HDTVs. You think they're going to shell out even more money for MORE technology?

my computer would cost only a couple of hundred dollars now
and internet is like $60 a month

i dont have a hdtv or lots of money

and the price of the tech is a pittance compared to a HDTV

my pc is a p4 2.4 which i bought about 3 years ago

a wifi card which is about $A50
and a router about $A100

you probably have a pc capable of this anyway anyway your looking at under $A500 if you really dont want to spend alot of money which is about $US350

and if your spending $A2000 or more on a tv this is about a quater of the price

at least over there you have access to cheap and fast internet here we have to bundle to get our connection cheaper and it still costs $69.95 a month

here is a good example

a few years ago everyone used floppy disks to store files
now alot of computers dont even come with a floopy drive and people use usb flash drives

but even now people dont use the flask diska as much anymore because of email i can email something to myself and have it accesible on any computer i want without the need for anything physical

surly with the incresing speed of internet connections in a few years isnt it possible that i could store my movies on a server just like i do with emails and access them wherever i want to

just think about it

Besides, it just feels good to actually go out and buy something. I feel like I actually own it. I like being able to see and hold something for which I've paid money. That's why I always buy CDs instead of downloading them. I like having the physical music in front of me with pictures and lyrics and all of that good stuff.

And if someone stole your laptop or hard drive, your whole collection of movies you've collected for years will just disappear. No one's going to steal DVD's in their cases. Also, it's too much work to download, wait a few hours, set it up, bring your computer everywhere, hook wires or whatever. You won't get deleted scenes and special features either.

no because they wont be on your hard drive they will be on a server and you will stream from the internet to watch it

at the average adsl/cable download speed in a few years it will take less time to download the movie than the length of the movie meaning you can watch it as its downloading

This is not such a hard concept to swallow. We have a computer hooked up to our TV. YES we really do. You can then go to sites like, www.vongo.com and download the movie to the computer and it is exactly the same as watching it on a DVD. Just like we used to have TV's with knobs on them, I think you will see the TV evolve. It will become more of a computer with a hard drive. We already have all the separate components already, Tevo is nothing but a TV hardrive. I wish they would compress the memory of DVD's and CD's so that they would be the size of a quarter. I'm so sick of DVD and CD cases. Why can't I have my entire movie collection in a shoebox?

thats where a program like itunes would be good

have you seen the one where you can flick through cd artwork a similar system would be great

or like this

It's not the same and never will be. Face it; people will always demand some kind of physical media, no matter how advanced downloading becomes.

Not that many. I don't feel like counting. Personally, I'm all about Netflix at the moment. If I like a movie enough, I'll go out and buy it.
