Racism (part Ii)

I'm going to state it like this since I am multiracial (white, black, and of Hispanic heritage). YES, having a preference of a particular race is SHALLOW AS HELL. I don't have a preference for anybody b/c I'm a member of both the black and white race in addition to being a Latina. I like a man if he likes and respects me back regardless if he is black, white, Asian, Latin, Native American, or other.

In the words of En Vogue, "Free your mind, and the rest will follow. Be color-blind, and don't be so shallow (Before you read me you gotta learn how to see me)."

There is a very simple solution to this!
End collective identification!!

This means not defining yourself or others as "black" or "white" or "gay" or "straight" or "conservative" or "liberal" etc. etc. etc.

The problem stems ultimately with the fact that people naturally create generalizations about people because our brains are wired to identify patterns and extrapolate data. But it doesn't take a lot of worldliness to see that NO group identification even comes close to fully defining the physical, emotional, intellectual, sexual, or spiritual intricacies of any one particular human being.

If you allow yourself to say something like "I don't like black people, physically" it is a self perpetuating mentality because you are then less likely to look past your generalizations and actually see a person for who he is as an individual.

People -- we are not carbon copies of a dozen predefined types, neatly fitting into porn fetish categories. We are individuals. We are people who have an infinite amount of value beyond any label that may apply to us.

As long as you believe this and truly treat every one you meet as a whole new individual, worthy of examination, then you will never have to worry about race problems. Shallow people are not worth any body's time anyway.

But!! In order to accomplish this, you must first be willing to accept that YOU are also an individual worthy of everyone else's full examination. This means no more "I'm just the gay guy" or "I'm the token black guy" or "I'm the Asian." As long as you hold onto these labels, no one will ever bother to see you past them. You must exert your individuality. You must seek individuality in others.

That is all

Re: Racism (part II)

Well, I haven't had a chance to read the aforementioned thread in regards to the black guy wishing he was white. With that being said, I have to admit that for a time when I was in high school and a little bit after I felt the same way. I eventually grew out of it and came to the realization that its not about the skin color, as others have already stated, its the fact that the men I mainly find sexually attractive happen to be of the "Caucasian Persuasion". I attribute this fact to the point in my own life when I finally came out Freshmen year in a high school where the majority of the students were Caucasian and a lot of my friends were and still are Caucasian. I guess it came with the territory and I must concur with I_Just_Blew_My_Load86, that I too am a black guy who knows I'm black and have no issues with it.

The fact that I am better educated than the average black male my age does come into play that I dont really understand that feeling of betrayal that seems to cross black men of both sexual orientations. Personally, I find it astonishing that we are either bashed for dating a white woman or bashed for dating a white man, the black community sees dating outside of the race as a betrayal that will ultimately lead to the demise of our race and culture. It is these feelings that stems racism across all color lines and the sooner we as humans figure out that we are all the same underneath and that our burdens, pains, and heartaches are common in everyone of us is the day that we will finally see racism die.

Hopefully, Ill be alive when that die finally arrives.,..

You Know What I Fuckin Mean! Human Race, Human Species Is the Same Fuckin Thing! We Are All The Same Race, Species, Whatever the Fuck Your Politically Correct Mind Wants To Think, Ethnicity Is Just A Way To Define Where We Come From, My Ethnicity Is Hispanic, My Race Is Human!

So You Dont Have To Be A know It All!

I really don't know what you mean. Human race is not a correct term and it leads to confusion. Race exists on the basis we've given it. You and I are the similar yet we're not the same person. You're latinoStar and i am nitish. Those are terms we chose to identify ourselves with. Saying we're all LatinoStars or nitish doesn't exit wouldn't make sense now would it? We're the same species yet of different race. Same gender yet of different ethnicity. I don't understand why you'd want to confuse these terms when their purpose is clear?
"ethnicity is a population of human beings whose members identify with each other, either on the basis of a presumed common genealogy or ancestry[1] or recognition by others as a distinct group, or by common cultural, linguistic, religious, or physical traits."
"The term race refers to the concept of dividing people into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of characteristics and beliefs about common ancestry. The most widely used human racial categories are based on visible traits (especially skin color, facial features and hair texture), and self-identification."
"A species is often defined as a group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring. While in many cases this definition is adequate, more precise or differing measures are often used, such as based on similarity of DNA or on the presence of specific locally-adapted traits."

I feel bad for people who want to be something else. There is no reason to think a black man who wants to be white is racist, just as it wouldn't make sense to think a woman who wants to be a man is sexist, a 50 year old who wants to be 20 is an ageist. Me hating to be a student does not mean i hate students. I just hate being a student. If a guy wants to be white, it's his life, let him live it.

I say those who find offense in others dating outside their race are the racists. And the idea that blacks should stick to their own is a racist idea.
