racist guys?

There's no question, not having sex with an (insert race) guy because of his race is racism. It's just continuing the legacy of Jim Crow, which if you can admit to it, by all means.

UM - this is just like saying I'm discriminating against women because I don't have sex with them. But then again, it's the truth, and I'll accept that. As human beings, we all naturally make judgements and have some prejudices to some degree, and I also accept that...

This thread can go on, and on, and on, and never die.

I guess by me being gay and not being attracted to women that would make me sexist too with this logic. But guess what? I'm not. I don't hate women and I don't think they're inferior to men. Just because I'm not attracted to a certain race doesn't make me racist either, especially considering whoever they are I don't hate or think any less of them as people. This is a matter of someone not being sexually attracted to someone else, that doesn't make them racist/sexist/whatever. Now the KKK? I think it's safe to say they're racist.

Well yeah, with those reasons I would call it racism. But for people like me who don't generalize or stereotype races but simply aren't attracted to a race, that I wouldn't call racism.

Right, you're not attracted to women for biological reasons. you're not attracted to black men for... biological reasons also? they have dicks, hard abs, big muscles, whatever else you'd find desirable in other races. so why not attracted?

If you disqualify someone based on their color of their skin--yes, that's racism. I have my preferences, but I NEVER disqualified a guy because of his skin color or lack thereof. My decisions are base on the individual and his personality. There are some styles that I don't go for i.e. thuggish type behavior. But I wouldn't disqualify an entire race, only that one person. So I guess my question is: are you turned off by certain personality or physical trait or is it purely skin tone? If the answer is purely skin tone--well...need I say more.

not to be mean, but i'm wondering why this topic keeps coming up and we keep debating it (yes, i'm guilty). Every time it's the same shit. No one ever changes their stance or challenges their assumptions. And the black posters are always fighting the non-black posters on defining what is racism. Has anyone actually ever changed their opinions or thought process based on these discussions?

would you automatically disqualify all white guys without knowing anything about them or their personalities?

No. I mean I like white guys too, I'm just way more drawn to darker skinned guys. Not real black, more olive to medium black, if that makes sense.

But is that racist? I really like Asian guys because I think they look good. Maybe someone woud find that racist.

I've been with white, black, Asian, and Mexicans so I guess I don't exclude people based on race. I know I'm not racist, but sometimes I may be looking more for a certain race or type of guy. So if I'm not looking for a black guy (for instance) at the time that doesn't make me a racist, just a guy looking for something else.

I don't know, maybe these threads really don't have a good resolution like you said.

The topic keeps coming up because it interests people and opinions are adjusting, ever so slightly. You occasionally see that in the posts, where attitudes soften. That's how real change occurs, in tiny increments. I've no doubt discussions like these will be periodically revisited.

I know. I just get so upset because it seems like race is the one subject no one is willing to budge on / re-think their assumptions and beliefs.

I think we all go through our little flavor of the month phases, where this "look" catches our eye just a little quicker than "that" look, but when someone reduces everything you are to just your race, and makes social, sexual or other choices on that basis alone, that could be seen as racially prejudicial. It's no one's fault, but I think we need to see and understand our biases and preconceptions (all latinos are hot, etc.) for what they are and move forward from there.

I've changed my opinion, where I used to think it was "just preference" and all those minorities should just shut up and stop whining, but now I do realize it is in fact racism and oppression. As if being black (or asian or any minority) in America isn't hard enough socially and economically, your sex life has to be hurt too?? When it rains it pours kinda deal? It is getting better, though.

This is rather absurd. I've only dated white guys and latin guys. I'm not turned on sexually by Asians. So I'm racist. Cool deal.

Unfortunate most people, including gay men, don't know what racism really means, or its details. They see racial preferences as synonymous preferences for things like body size. (hint: they aren't)

This of course, boggles the minds of academics that study "race" for a living. Particularly sociologists, cultural/ethnic theorists, anthropologists, and psychologists. Even economists have studied the "mate market" and "race preferences".

To understand why racist preferences make you racist, though not at fault or a "bad" person, generally takes a college-level understanding in critical analysis of the media and socialization.

It's more simpler to be relativists that think that we're "born" with whatever "preferences" we have and there's nothing "wrong" with it. The worst simple-minded folks are ones that go beyond "personal preference" and think a certain race (usually white men) are "superior" to other races in terms of beauty, and that it is universal.

There's just as much genetic variation in eye color and hair color as in skin color. Why is it okay to say that you like blonds, but not that you like blacks. In a post-racial world skin color (I detest the word "race") is just another personal attribute. I prefer certain races, but I wouldn't refuse someone just because of the color of their skin if he was a compatible person with me.

Thank YOU!

I'm white and I'm more attracted to dark or olive skinned guys.
Does that mean I'm racist against white guys?

Why is it relevant that you're white? It really shouldn't matter that you're white. You should try to think of yourself as a person instead of as a white person. That whole idea that skin color puts you into a "race", or makes you a different type of person is so outdated.

The funny thing is that blue eyes is a genetic mutation that started only 10,000 years ago, from a single ancestor. Before that, everybody on the planet had brown eyes. Essentially, people with the recessive gene for blue eyes don't create melanin - the same stuff that makes your skin dark.

The more interesting thing is how Western media places value on "baby blue eyes", despite it making no biological sense. That is, blue eyed people, from an evolutionary perspective, would not want to mate with other blue eyed people because there is a higher chance (albeit little) of genetic defect, being a form of endogamy.
