Oatmeal is one of the few foods that is good tasting as well as good for you provided you don't put to much sugar in it. mmmm, mmmmm good.

OMG I'm kinda OBSESSED with oatmeal at school. it's the best thing ever. all my friends and I have it and we share and eat it together and stuff. I love you for starting this thread.

Mmmmm, oatmeal!

I do the instant variety, and lately it's been General Mills' "Cinnamon Roll" stuff. It's awfully sweet straight, though, so I mix it two-to-one with the plain.
Does that make it bi, instead of straight?

Now I'm hungry. Oatmeal for lunch, anyone?

:D

Hot cereal in the AM rocks! I usually eat either Oatmeal (various flavors), Grits (various varieties) or Cream of Wheat (various varieties). Nothing like a hot breakfast to start the day (and through the modern miracle of microwaves, it can be had quickly too!):D

My hand is up! I love oatmeal... especially the flavored varieties. Lately my favorite has been maple brown sugar! Yum!!

I hate to be a party pooper ...lol ... BUT; I can't stand oatmeal . When i was little my mother used to try to force it down me; BUT I thought and still think it looks like vomit !! Sorry.

Love it all, but I'm really partial to Scotch or Irish Oatmeal. If you havent tried either, do yourself a favor and give it a go. Most large grocery stores have one or the other. It usually comes in a can. A bit more trouble to prepare, but worth it. You can add your favorite goodies to it.

My breakfast usually consists of a banana and a latte (and, if I'm especially hungry, yogurt). I don't usually have time to make oatmeal in the mornings, but I've been meaning to try the oatmeal bar at the Au Bon Pain near my office...

And being Polish...of course the oatmeal has to come with some bread and jam...(being Polish you have to have bread, especially rye bread, with anything you eat).

Well, back in my day we had the the 'variety pack' of instant oatmeal...

Which had: two 'plain', two 'apple and cin', two brown sugar and cin',
and two 'Flintstone chewable morphine' selections....

:D

I love oatmeal! ..|

I eat it almost every morning...with a little lite maple syrup or honey. It only takes 2 minutes to cook in the microwave (who doesn't have time for that?) and a large 42 oz. container of quick oats is around $3. Cheap, quick and healthy.

Oatmeal rasin nut cookies are my favorite too. I wish I had time to bake some today...now I want them!

Oat Lovers try these, but you have to use steel cut, Irish or Scotch oats.

1)
1 cup steel cut oats
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup dried figs
4 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours. Stir and remove to serving bowls. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning.

2)
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup steel cut oats
3 cups boiling water
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon low-fat buttermilk
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamonIn a large saucepot, melt the butter and add the oats. Stir for 2 minutes to toast. Add the boiling water and reduce heat to a simmer. Keep at a low simmer for 25 minutes, without stirring. Combine the milk and half of the buttermilk with the oatmeal. Stir gently to combine and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Spoon into a serving bowl and top with remaining buttermilk, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

Both of these are great. In the overnighter, you can substitute any dried fruits: dried cherries, raisins, strawberries for the cranberries and , dried apricots or peaches for the figs.

If that's to much, try the second, quicker recipe The key is the toasting of the oats. You will really like the difference this makes.
