In the place I do pottery we like to do some special firings once or twice a year.
Saturday was the first Raku of the year. We have these usually twice a the pottery place, but apparently we'll only do one this year!
American Raku, which is different from Japanese Raku, evolved a while ago, (early to mid 20th century) from some very well known artists that were inspired by the roughness and beauty of this Japanese art form.
Here's a link to a description of this work:
Raku
Since a Raku firing generates a lot of smoke and heat, we usually do this when the weather is bad. This raku firing was an exception, we had a cold but sunny day!!
Unfortunately we did not get the results we wanted! I had some successful pieces, but a lot of unsuccessful ones too!
Luckily for me, another group is doing a firing next month and I'm getting ready for it!!!
But my week was extremely busy! I had to work, the usual 9 hours every day, plus prepare two potluck dishes for the Raku and a Pre-Raku presentation at the other place. I am now exhausted, but I still have much to do since I have work tomorrow!
I hate it when works gets on the way of life!!!
