On-Topic Ranked Choice Voting

… the Dem leadership has fought against it.

Can you provide a reference demonstrating that the Democratic Party leadership has fought against ranked choice voting and the reasons they provided for their opposition?

… redistributing the third candidate's second-preference votes on the first election. Only one election ever needed.

OTOH, it doesn’t seem fair for a candidate with 43% of the vote on the first count to lose to a candidate who received only 28% on the first count.

Do outcomes like that erode confidence in the election system?

Allowing the voters to settle the contest between the top two contenders in a new and separate election seems less subject to dispute or complaint.

But if you're right then the 43% candidate is going to lose anyway - in the run-off election.

If second votes are going overwhelmingly to the 28% candidate already, then all that happens is delaying the inevitable loss to when voters only have a choice of two.

They want the scape goat of the 3rd parties when they lose. Whenever the idea gets brought up they try to kill its backing and then change the subject.
