Could it have been Jockboy's shit-for-brains that he dropped out of his ass?

Gosh Vannie.. I have relatives in Allentown and Harrisburg so those eateries are familiar.

One of my favorite meals is a pot of beans (hamhock or fatback) fried taters,
tuna salad (greens and red onion with tuna and Hellmans mayo for binding plus a squirt of lemon juice)...dump the chowchow into a big bowl of the beans and use
cornbread w jalapeno chillies in it to sop up the juices....

Damn, now I'm starving. Maybe we can get R/L to run over a chowchow distributor????

Thanks guys!!! I appreciate it... what one can learn here!! (*8*)(*8*)

The chow chow I'm familiar with is a sweet-and-sour pickled relish, usually made with green tomatoes, green, red, and yellow bell peppers, hot peppers, and onions. A corn relish could be made from the same recipe by adding fresh corn scraped off the cob.

I like it with a couple of spoonfuls mixed in beans (white beans, pinto beans, black-eyed peas) with a wedge of cornbread, and on hot dogs and hamburgers.

My mom used to make a batch every summer from an old family recipe. My sister and I used to take turns cranking the handle on the grinder while the other would feed bits of peppers and onions through the opening at the top. The grinder was bolted to the table and a huge dishpan on the chair would catch the juice and bits of vegetables as they came through the holes on the mill. Vinegar and sugar was added and it was cooked on the stove top in a huge pot. It would make enough for about a dozen or so pint jars of chow chow.

I've tried store-bought brands and none have ever close to what my mother used to make.
