Word on the curb from celeb realtor Kurk Rappaport says wealthy Californians who left per high tax rates are slowly migrating back after republicans and their nonsense in Tennessee, Texas, Florida, et cetera. I think Hollywood and the multiculturalism of California disillusioned them and they didn't expect to see such naked racism in the south, not the polite mildly offensive racism of liberals and democrats but the "We don't take too kindly to your kind around here" violent racism of Mason Dixieland. The mass shooting in Tennessee is another pretty gross stain on red states. The homophobia was probably pretty shocking too, we all know it exists but when you see these people in-person and their hatred for gays radiates right in front of you it's probably kinda scary.

I often read on social media about people and businesses fleeing California for places like Texas but this was an interesting (if not totally unexpected) revelation. My general assumption for people who leave a place like Cali or NY to go to Texas or Florida is they just wanna be able to say the n-word on social media without losing their jobs. Do you gals know anybody who has buyer's remorse after leaving a progressive state?

Actually I've been thinking of moving to some god forsaken hick town as a last ditch attempt at solving my financial issues. I know someone in southwestern PA and it's dirt cheap there.

Don't do it girl!

Since you don't have to worry about substandard southwestern Pennsylvania school districts, it might work for you.

I consider relocating to Pittsburgh.

I know a number of people who are still moving out of California.

They are able to move from a small older home in California and pay cash for a much larger / newer home in Nevada / Arizona and still have a nice hunk of change left over.

If you are working from home or retired and do not have to worry about kids education it can give you a lot more home and money in your pocket.

True, but Arizona and Nevada aren't Texas and Florida. And the more Californians move to Arizona and Nevada, the bluer those states will get.

The Californians I know that have left because of the high cost of living for the most part have gone to Texas, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Idaho with the most moving to Idaho.

They are all Democrats except for one who moved to Arizona but I say look to Idaho in the future. The new Idaho residents are all Democrats:)

Idaho is getting pretty effing nuts lately, though. The legislature just outlawed traveling across state lines to get an abortion.
And how many Democrats is it going to take to change the balance? Idaho has 1.9 million people, more than three times as many as Wyoming.

Wyoming would be a better bet -- or Montana, which isn't too far from being purple, except for presidential elections.
(On the other hand, Montana real estate is getting more expensive, too.)

Maybe this is Idaho's last stand.

The abortion thing may be the turning point but not the turning point they would like.

I don't know anyone who is not pro-choice and that includes all the Republicans I know as well.

Religious republicans are the driving force with the anti choice movement but the backlash is coming.

Sadly that's democrats biggest hope since they are still fumbling (Jill Biden inviting Iowa to the White House, failure to expel problematic politicians or even acknowledge their existence). Our best hope for 2024 is that people who are anti-fascism anti-racism pro-choice pro-LGBT are as energized as they were in 2020 and 2022. This is going to be a sloppy election season and I when it comes to messaging and reaching their base, republicans are miles ahead. Democrats are de-fanged and far too meek to fight the 24-hour cycle of propaganda and abhorrence. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz could pull out crack pipes and start smoking crack and having an orgy in the middle of a session and dems would politely wait for them to finish, and they'd never even mention it. Where's the backlash for the #Tennesseethree other than Kamala Harris parading them on camera? /endrant
