The church is much more than a building for the assembly of the faithful is composed of human beings whose lives are always in need of renewal and none more so than myself.

Self renewal is part of the Easter message of hope that each, and everyone of us is able to renew our self by embracing the call of The Saviour to let him lead us through our life.

Redemption is the very realisation of our need to rise above our devotion to self interest, and embrace the call of The Saviour to love our neighbour, that we may love God knowing that Our Father is not an abstract construct rather a living reality in the lives of all who follow the call of the risen Christ.

"Preach the Gospel; if necessary, use words." is usually attributed to Francis of Assisi when inviting his friars to do more than stand on street corners preaching the gospel of The Christ; for he expected his brothers to live the gospel enabling them to understand through the living experience all that they shared with their fellow human beings.

Work - not discussion - is needed. Generically "you" treat the Church like a movie. I'm not religious but I can tell when people are slacking. Stop discussing and take your Faith back. Now, bump this 5 years. The "Rat" doesn't have long.

The priest-abuse people have started; the financial boondoggle people have started; WITHIN the Curia questions are coming to light. You Faith is built on martyrs. How many do you know?

:corn:

Sacrificing to promote, maintain and proseltyze a non-working but self-perpetuating doctrine is not martyrdom. IT's beauracacy. And God is your cover. I at least bbelieve in the Honor of God (see, Becket) but I don't hide behind HIM. You have cataloged good and faithful beauraucrats, nothing more.

NOTE: I assume Post #! is from the "Approved Bible." What about the rest of it? To rebuild The Rat should endorse those.

Note; I speak thus of your blessed hierarchy because your church is retreating in the first world countries and is left to convert voodooists and shamans. Hardly a platform to storm the ramparts of evil.

You use this to excess as a crutch. Francis, 1181-1226, is a little tired. Especially by the "literati." Bring yourself current, like to the barricades.

These homilies will NOT rebuild the church.

Just because it's old doesn't mean it isn't current.

And old doesn't establish validity. Burned a witch lately. How about proof by combat. Back then I'll bet Mary had a little lamb. Probably in a manger.

Don't countenance the idolators by being joinntly obstreperous. Or a mountebank/

Well, that's about as useful as a sideways tire on a drag racer.

Jazzing up tired old Assisi for today's world might make him obsteperous to the point of explosion.

This forum suffers from no lack of [STRIKE]simpletons[/STRIKE] simplicity.

Well, you could always condescend to us simpletons with a little more explanation about why you think Kallipolis has rendered it a vacuous statement.

Or not. Leave it a free throw.

It is his default crutch. self conflicting, and without a call to action. I too can feed doves. Martin Luther did more at Wurtenburg than 90% of your saints not knowing why. I have no problem with the statement - but you must have more. a SCREAMED call to rebuild met with homilies, censers, mumbled Latin is vacuous. No matter how many doves you feed.

I don't do free throws: those are for the faithful - there is no one to throw home. I have me and Thomas a Becket.

Hmm, I don't know much about the specifics of Christian history, so it's certain I am a simpleton. More evidence: I interpret Francis' statement, and Kallipolis' intent, as a call to action. Do they really mean, 'practice ritual' as the opposite of 'use words' rather than 'act Christianly'??

I also wish you'd tell us some more about why you like Becket.

Francis meant to DO Christianity, so that people would see the Gospel in one's actions, knowing from them that there is love and mercy and forgiveness. It had nothing to do with ritual or liturgy.
