So as the title implies, I recently came out to my parents. I came out as bi because technically thats what I am but I do prefer men. They were surprisingly composed and supportive of this news. I do think what made it easier to handle is that I told them I was bi and not gay. I found it amusing because I did leave hints that I prefer men and will never be with a woman again but I think they were relieved because in their minds, there is a chance I end up with a woman. I have never felt happier and more free then I do right now. I am 23 and this was one of the hardest things Ive ever had to do but Im very happy to have done it. Anyway, I just thought Id share and would love to help anyone that is trying to muster up the courage to have the talk.

Congratulations, MEP2491. Coming out is probably the hardest thing a young gay or bi guy can do. But, as you have stated, you are happier and feel free. The pressure is off and now all it will take is your parents to get accustomed to the truth. They will slowly recognize what your preference is and accept it as it is. Obviously you are the same person as before and having the support of family is the ultimate freedom. Thanks for sharing your experience and the generous offer to help others.

Awesome! It takes courage to come out. Now you are free to live your truth.

Thanks Craiger and HunterM. I really appreciate the kind words and support.
