Hey,

I was just wondering about the chances of gay men getting rectal prolapse.

Don't get me wrong... I am asking because I enjoy anal sex so much, and for that reason only am I playing devil's advocate.

But after a lifetime of getting fucked regularly, isn't prolapse to be expected? Or is it rare? Do we have statistics on gay men themselves?

I know they always say to take it really slow, but nobody ever fucks slow every time throughout their life. I imagine anal sex really takes a toll on all the weak tissue inside the anus and rectum.

I just want to be able to have sex and not always worry about this, BUT I do want to be informed and have the facts-- from a doctor who is both informed about this area for gay men, but also unbiased. In other words, if the truth is bad, I still want to know it.

Thank you,

Hey man, I think what you really need is to find a gay friendly doctor who you can ask these questions to. The only reason I am saying is this is because I noticed you have posted various questions related to sex on these forums and are often looking for a medical answer.

If you tell us what city you live in, somebody might be able to give you some ideas as to where you might find a gay-friendly clinic. If you are in a big city, chances are you can get sexual counselling for free.

My personal opinion, you are overreacting. Most gay men who regularly engage in safe sex do not experience rectal prolapse. But I am not a doctor.

I'm not going to post anymore questions after this one, don't worry. I was worried it would seem like I was spamming, so I should've put my disclaimer first, hehe.

I'll wait for the resident doctor to respond, hehe :)

I am also going to look for a gay-friendly doctor this spring, for sure.

Some of your questions about anal are discussed in the All About Ass sticky at the top of the forum. You might give that a read

To answer your question- rectal prolapse is relatively rare. The most common cause is straining with bowel movements- usually because of constipation and lack of dietary fiber. It can also happen in infants who have not fully developed anal tone and who have problems with defecation.

I've never seen any research that indicates that this is an issue for gay men who participate in receptive anal sex within reasonable bounds.

Extreme anal- such as fisting or use of oversized dildos- is another issue altogether.

Well I don't do anything but fingers or cocks in there, so I guess that's gotta be safe. At least considering some people stick pretty big stuff up there! lol

why doesnt Brent Corrican get prolapse... His ass hole is still perfect, but he get fucked by huge guys, sometimes 2 dicks at once...

Because prolapse is more the result from pressure from the inside to the outside. This is more the result of gravity, age and straining during defecation. Even a "huge guy" is not that much bigger than what is coming out of your ass when you go to the bathroom.

Occasionally when you watch a guy getting fucked, you will see some mild prolapse when the top is pulling out. But as long as the supporting structures of the rectum are still intact, it will return to normal- at least when you're young.

But as I mentioned in my response from 2010 above- that's as long as your putting reasonable things in and out of your ass. When you start moving up to fists and huge sex toys, you increase your risk.
