Recycle, Compost, Trash: How do you tell your guests?

I just found out that my one brother who lives out a bit where they don't have all of the city services has to pay a monthly bill to a private company for trash pick-up and that is for two rubbish cans. If he puts out extra cans they bill him for the extra ones.

I also remember talking to a co-worker who lived in the City of Cleveland and a few years ago when they started picking up recyclables and wanted everyone to participate they required everyone to put out recyclables every week or they could be fined. I haven't heard of them enforcing that though.

While we're off topic at this point, the newest best thing in some Ontario municipalities is to require clear garbage bags in order to ensure that people are re-cycling. Households are allowed one opaque kitchen bin sized bag for personal garbage.

It has resulted in an immediate substantial decrease in the amount of garbage actually going into landfill.

A ragbag if it's in the lav, a skin bin if it's in the guestroom?

Might take a while to fill up.

Use humor to tell them....

Back in the Mid 80s ...I think it was a drought at the time and we were in the Santa Cruz Mountains at the home of a friend of my husbands and they have a sign in the bathroom that read YELLOW IS MELLOW...BROWN GOES DOWN...very clever...it made me smile..and I still remember it.....but most importantly I remembered not to flush when I took a piss after I read it...
