I decided to organize a "Regional" JUB Meet for San Antonio, Texas for Labor Day Weekend September 1 thru the 3rd, 2007.

That will give us plenty of time to mark our calenders and save up some money for that weekend.

If you're going to plan it through Orbitz.com, or Travelocity.com, or Expedia.com, maybe would could all decide on a Hotel/Motel that we could all stay at, that way we could "shuttle" around to all the places that we want to visit in the "Alamo City" together as a group! (Maybe we could rent a van!)

There are two areas to consider. The area that is the most fun, and has the most places within "walking distance" is the area of San Antonio known as "Riverwalk," which is "downtown." Probably the best rates for Hotels/Motels would be "center-city" which is the area inside "the loop."

Riverwalk is where we can visit the Alamo, the Riverwalk, and San Antonio's funky "Bonham Exchange" Gay dance bar all on foot:

I figure that we could plan on meeting in San Antonio Saturday September 1st, in the afternoon at a place TBD, then hit the Riverwalk, and the Bonham Exchange.

On Sunday we could either tour the Alamo, and/or Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

I checked, and for parties of 15 or more we can get discount "group" tickets for nearly 1/2 of what a full ticket costs: $24.95 -vs- $44.95. With a "two-week" advanced purchase.

We may even be able to schedule a shuttle to Six Flags Fiesta Texas from where ever it is that we all decide to stay.

Let's discuss! I figure with this much lead time we should be able to get a good turn out!

^^ That's right! You can fly BOG-MEX-SAT, I used to work for Mexicana years ago ;)

I am all about meets and traveling (funny that I first started travelling thanks to my first job at Mexicana Airlines) but a lot of people use holliday weekends to meet see family or hang out with other friends... just food for thought.

GL247 and I picked Labor Day weekend, because it's a nice long weekend and will give as many who want to come a chance to join us, and get back with time to spare. ;)

We're just sharing with y'all where we're going to be that weekend! ..|

I've found it to be impossible to plan any event where everyone could come.

I've also learned that there are those who don't show up who said that they would, and some who show up who said that they wouldn't. :confused:

So go figure! :lol:

I look forward to meeting, and seeing again those who can make it! (*8*)

A plane ticket from Seattle to San Antonio is about $400 and it looks like nothing is non-stop!! Are you going to plan a group event for that Sunday the 2nd so there is time to recuperate and fly home? ;)

So far the group event we've discussed was a tour of the Alamo and the downtown area or even Six Flags Fiesta Texas. But it's all still open for discussion. :)

Yeah, the idea is to we could give everyone time to make it in on a Saturday, then we'd hit an area attraction on a Sunday, and then everyone can make their way back home on that Monday.

I can be in San Antonio as early as Friday night.

If we get enough people, I figure we could get Hotel/Motel in the Central San Antonio area. It's cheaper "inside the loop" than it is in Downtown.

I'll even rent a van so that we can all travel together! :D

Congratulations to GL,your inspired idea of conducting a major national or regional Jub meet has finally come to fruition...thanks to centex and the other mods who got behind this great idea and especially to Seth and JD, who gave their whole hearted support to this concept and will be present for the Labor Day weekend extravaganza.I hope this leads to a staggered series of recurring regional meets over the following few months,for maximum flexibility in ensuring more Jubbers get a chance to meet and get to know each other better,and to be able to attend more than one if they so wish.You all deserve a great big ..|

I just wanted to confirm that JD and his Boyfriend, Sha and his Boyfriend, Me & Thundercizzle, and perhaps a few others from JUB will be attending this meet. We sure would love to see a ton of other JUB users make it to San Antonio.

Hey Restless! Trust me, it's an easy drive... just get on I-35 and head south, it's about a 4 hour drive.

FYI, centexfarmer and I are hosting a mini-meet the first weekend of June here in S.A. You're more than welcome to come on by! Regardless I hope to see you here! ;)

yes - well, i mean coming in the 'to arrive' sense ('venir'), preston. but i trust i can come (correrse en español) in that sense also. i look forward to the event. i have been there before - 13 years ago. i remember a cafeteria-or group of them - with good food called Luby. Also, a wonderful real autentico mexican place - mi tierra. i'll check the thread from time to time to see what will be happening
