Reid: War is LOST

I Never said Harry was the blame for the war. He is the one to blame for the down fall of moral, pride and espre de corps. (and how can Murtha ever say Simpa Fi ?)

The war in Iraq "is lost" and a US troop surge is failing to bring peace to the country, the leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, said Thursday.

"I believe ... that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week," Reid said, on the same day US President George W. Bush was giving a speech at an Ohio town hall meeting defending the war on terror.

this is Mr. Reid at work

American taxpayers pay his salary

And he is saying to anyone who will listen publicly - we're done - it's done - we've lost

That the surge is not working

That we cannot win

I don't get it

Why would he proclaim that for all to hear

To what end?

By saying this he hopes what?

The debate has two sides: (1.) We are winning the war. (2.) We are losing the war.

I don't see how you can debate the war, without saying one or the other.

I guess there is a third point: Let's just keep killing each other until there is no one left.

I am not optimistic about the surge at all,and I have been strongly, brutally critical of this Administration's handling of the war,and even bitterly torn over the justifications for it,many disproven...not accurate, whether the invasion was the right thing to do at all.But I cannot take the way the Dems are putting in their two cents. How do we eventually disengage from Iraq with the best chance to leave it secure and reasonably stable, that should be our foremost concern.I see the Democrats breathless desire to put the worst face on,say the war is unwinnnable militarily,as terribly counterproductive in its naked obviousness. They look like they want a retreat, and those who oppose us in the regon will get the unmistakable impression we have no stomach for confrontation and we will turn tail when things are going badly.Especially if these Dems are in charge. We got suckas to play with!

Of course we should disengage as soon as possible, but if we do it on the terms of negativity and retreat, more opportunities to look for American weakness and lack of resolve will present themselves to our foes in the region. This war is a disaster, and it probably will take much more of a multifaceted approach to even have a chance of stabilizing the situation enough we can leave Iraq in a more secure position. But do not ever look like you are taking all the options and contingencies off the table...do not seem eager to be perceived as pliable and gullible and weak.Senator Reid and the Democratic party have an opportunity to put their own stamp on Iraqi policy, but complete reversal from too bullheaded and arrogantly stubborn Bush policy to too accomodating and dithering and trusting of a regional political solution the Democrats are coalescing around is not an improvement at all...statesmanship requires a lot more skill, determination, and political savvy to pull off,but we need it from someone.

And G.A. maybe you can address the Fact Of Reid slimmed the faith and will of all the men/women in uniform.Keep Bush outa this and using him for your bantering. Face the fact that the dems tossed the towel and handed the keys to the future to our/Irags killers.

Good for Reid?

no

unfortunately no

he's a traitor - plain and simple

there's a big difference between having a belief/fighting for what's right and aiding and abetting

Reid is pathetic - but honest

the war is lost

so just say no to all funding Harry

how anyone could pull the lever for Harry is beyond me

His partisanship knows no bounds

Harry is on the "war is lost" bus and will tell anyone who asks - do u think harry wants the surge to work?

nah

Harry knows the war is lost

thank god Harry is not in the military
This is the most schizophrenic post I've ever seen on this board. Bravo, Chance.

I guess u just don't understand me Spring

I am mocking Reid - other than his "honesty" in saying what his belief "really" is

and if it is that - take and make the vote

he is beyond my contempt

I hope that clears it up

but if not, let me know

This would be funny if you didn't actually believe it. "Slimmed the faith and will of the military"? Do you realize that the bill that Reid and Pelosi are trying to get Bush to sign provides more funding to our troops the Bush's own funding request? Do you know that it ensures that they have the proper healthcare they need when they come back from war?

Harry Reid isn't the one who is damaging the faith and will of our troops, my friend. That is what the Bush Administration has been doing from the start--sending them to war without an exit strategy, without the body armor they need, without enough reenforcements, and without the proper training and equipment. Bush is the one who challenged the enemy to "bring it on" as attacks on our troops escalated; he is the one extending tours of duty and forcing many to serve on second and third deployments; he's the one who is placing a serious strain on the National Guard; and he's the one who is sending more troops to be killed in the face of more violence. In the meantime, every foreign policy and military expert, nearly every retired general, and the Iraq Study Group has said he is making matters worse.

Just how far out of touch with reality are you folks?

When Bush vetoes the bill, the message he sends to the troops will be clear: "I don't give a damn about you or your safety. I don't care about your healthcare or your protection. I don't care what I ask you to do. I don't care about your family or loved ones. I don't care about your emotional health. You can all go to hell."

Interestingly enough, it is the same message most of us have heard the last four years. Sadly, a select few still haven't heard it.

Harry knows the war is lost

thank god Harry is not in the military

God knows you are not in the military, not doing anything remotely akin to riskiung anything let alone your life or your ass for what you can click away on a keyboard claiming to believe

But my son and a lot of other people's children are there

its so easy to the big tuffy wuffy soldier when you are sititng at home, isn't it

but then you are upset because a US Senator gives his opinion

that is precisely what a Senator is there for - but maybe you'd prefer the super dooper secret opinions that are never made available to the public because we should just believe one party's line

you just

bitch

about everything

that you don't

agree with

while you recline on your couch

while other people's lives

are at stake

skip a line

say something snippy

at home

all safe and snuggly

with your favorite male pictures

at home

risking nothing

except a callous on your fingers

... Yes Harry Thanks for stabbing the backs of our soldiers and saying they are a bunch of LOSERS. 'gezz ya'all did kinda your best, but we are cutting your funds cuz Nancy & I wanta make some hay of all of this . It's how we play politics in my home-state(Nevada ya know) It's a big crap shot and MY SEAT holds the Tables.'...

THAT is why I think Reid is not saying withdraw funding. Because people will start saying anyone to supports that idea doesn't support the troops, which is bull shit.

If this war is lost militarily,it will not be because of the troops failures but our leadership, most damning of all the Bush Administration.I don't think the Democrats know what they want, but I believe for all their petulance and intellectual pretzelbending, they do support the troops and they are not traitors...but they have no clue how to lead and their withdrawal push is as intellectually and practically misguided and dangerously naive as the Administration's failed policies which have left the security and economic situation in Iraq deteriorating alarmingly. The surge is having no impact yet in the key Baghdad area which must be pacified for it to have a chance of success.

I truly want us to succeed,we owe it to the Iraqis, the region's security, and the troops we sent to make this mission work.I hold no great hopes anyone in the near term,Republican or Democrat, however will offer leadership, boldness and direction that will really make a positive difference over in Iraq. The Administration overreached, without taking into consideration the history and culture...and the Democrats overaccomodate, trusting too much in political institutions like the UN which when it really has to lead rarely does a lick and the regional governments like Iran and Syria who have their own regional power consolidation aspirations dominating their intentions.
