Rekers "RentBoy" Speaks

Rentboy.com Statement About this Week's Events

This week an anti-gay activist and family values crusader named George Rekers was caught by the Miami New Times returning from a vacation with a rentboy, and the story has turned into an international media circus, with coverage on CNN, Colbert Report, BBC, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show and the blogosphere. We were completely surprised by this turn of events and we are following it closely. At rentboy.com, it is our policy to protect the privacy of any escort advertising his services on our site--the same goes for clients. Information exchanged between consenting adults meeting on our site remains private. Mr.Rekers has built a highly public, lucrative career out of shaming gay men and women. If it is true that he took a rentboy "on vacation," then he has brought this negative attention on himself. We reserve judgment, we don't know all the facts.

Just to be clear, Rentboy.com is not an escort agency, we are an ad listing service for male escorts, where men place their own ads and work for themselves, so that clients can contact them directly. Our mission is to create a non-judgmental space where anyone curious about exploring male-male companionship can hire a man by the hour. We remain open-minded and devoted to privacy for the people who use our site, but we can't take the risk out of leading a double life, or having a closeted or hypocritical career... If you're a famous heterosexual homophobe and you appear in public with a rentboy with your pants down, you're just asking for trouble.

If you would like to Take a Pornstar or Male Escort on Vacation, Rentboy.com is where you'll find him. Excess baggage can indeed be heavy and there is nothing like a hot man to help you unload it.

OMG :rotflmao:

AC360 on CNN. The footage I saw was him outside by a pool, I think, doing the "sad, wandering walk" shot.

Having seen, the interview and how hot Lucien is, I honestly wonder why Rekers just wanted Lucien to massage him.

I mean, if I hired Lucien, he'd be lucky to walk straight...I'd be lucky to walk straight

Wait a minute, the State of Florida payed that creep $120,000 for a testimony?????

And yet still people wonder why some states are on the verge of bankrupcy

Coor why they no give him blow job much cheaper ha

I guess that's how conflicted Rekers is. He can justify it and convince himself he isn't gay if it's just a "massage".

National And State LGBT Organizations Step Up To Protect Rekers' Rentboy

An impressive group of state and national LGBT organizations have expressed their support for Jo-Vanni Roman, the Miami rentboy caught in the middle of the best/worst scandal to hit the anti-gay political machine in years. The above listed organizations and other skilled Florida-based professionals have all indicated their willingness to step in with their widely varied areas of expertise, should the situation become appropriate for their involvement. The leaders of these organizations have agreed to lend their names to this show of solidarity by the nation's LGBT community.

Equality Florida: Nadine Smith, Executive Director
National Center for Lesbian Rights: Kate Kendall, Executive Director
Norm Kent: Civil Rights Attorney, Publisher and Editor, South Florida Gay News
Truth Wins Out: Wayne Besen, Executive Director
The Trevor Project: Charles Robinson, Executive Director
Lambda Legal: Gregory Nevins, Senior Staff Attorney, Southern Regional Office
Fifteen Minutes Publicity: Howard Bragman, Chairman

Noted Hollywood publicity agent Howard Bragman, who specializes in media crisis management, has volunteered to help Jo-Vanni Roman navigate the deluge of interview requests. They are scheduled to speak today. Florida-based attorney Ron Gunzburger has also made an offer of pro bono support, should the need arise. Other national and state organizations may be added to this list in the next few days.

At least Lucien is getting the support he needs and deserves :=D:

NARTH Had Hand in Rekers Damage Control, Escort Says

In an exclusive New Times interview early last Thursday morning, Lucien contradicted Rekers for the first time and said he had provided seamy rubdowns in the nude. He said he also declined to fill out the questionnaire.

"Apparently the people who are associated with NARTH, they asked for him to send me an email of things we should write out," Lucien told us. "And I didn't agree upon it because I didn't feel comfortable with the whole situation."

After the interview concluded, Lucien suddenly called Rekers over speakerphone. New Times reporters jotted down notes.

Lucien asked Rekers repeatedly if anyone else had been involved in the questionnaire. "Yeah, one of the guys who's on the board of a professional organization with me," Rekers said.

In fact, Rekers is on the board of NARTH, a non-profit based in Encino, California, that believes homosexuality is a curable mental disorder. NARTH claims to be able to turn gay people straight.

"First, I got some advice from the public relations people at a professional organization," Rekers said.

What was the advice from the unnamed organization? "The only way to make this news story go away is to make your first statement and then stop giving interviews," Rekers told Lucien.

As Lucien kept digging for details, Rekers finally admitted that the "professional organization" was NARTH.

Questionnaire can be seen here.

FL Attorney General Bill McCollum: I Wish Dr. George Rekers Hadn't Been Hired

As our "Facebook riot" continues on Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum's campaign page, yesterday he issued a statement of regret over the hiring of Dr. George Rekers.

"I will not do it again,'' McCollum said, but defended his agency's handling of the case, and steered the blame toward the Department of Children and Families, which he said hired him. "I think our team’s done what it should do,'' he said. "We’ve been defending the constitution of the state and we’ve been representing the Department of Children and Families, who hired him and paid him and needed expert witnesses and he was available and credentialed. I wouldn’t do it again if I knew what I know today but I didn't know that then and neither did anybody else,'' he said. McCollum spokeswoman Sandi Copes called to clarify: "They have paid him but we did select him, executed a contract that DCF approved," Copes said. "We selected him, they paid for him."

Saying you wish you hadn't done something is NOT an apology, is it? On the plus side, once the Florida Attorney General declares that you are now worthless to our enemies, that's a good thing.

Bill McCollum Recommended George Rekers For Gay Adoption Trial

Today the Florida Tribune revealed that Attorney General Bill McCollum actually wrote a letter to the Department of Children and Families in which he "strongly" urged the hiring of Dr. George Rekers for the state's battle to maintain their ban on gay adoption.

McCollum wrote a July 2007 letter to then DCF Secretary Bob Butterworth where he said his legal team “strongly” recommended the hiring of Rekers, a psychologist once on the faculty of the University of South Carolina and who helped found the Family Research Council back in the ‘80s. “They believe that this expert and his testimony are necessary to ensure a successful result in this case,’’ wrote McCollum in the letter obtained by the Florida Tribune. McCollum in his letter noted that initially DCF refused to hire Rekers, due primarily to the potential cost of his fees. Instead the child welfare agency wanted to only hire Walter Schumm, a professor of family studies at Kansas State University. “Dr. Schumm is a good expert, but his areas of expertise are different from Dr. Rekers,’’ wrote McCollum. “Our attorneys handling this case have searched long and hard for other expert witnesses with comparable expertise to Dr. Rekers and have been unable to identify any who would be available for this case.”

DCF replied to McCollum that they gave "great weight to the analysis and recommendation of your staff." They said they'd follow McCollum's advice as long as Rekers' fee did not exceed $60,000. The state actually paid Rekers TWICE that amount.

And the shitstrom keeps getting bigger...

NARTH are the biggest bunch of shitheels I've ever seen.

Seriously, they're just a notch below neo-Nazis. Al Qaeda, if you're going to do another attack, just find their headquarters.

Wouldn't that be nice if we could get terrorists fighting each other!

Wait, NARTH isn't quite a terrorist group...just an abusive fraud group that ruins people's lives.

Besides, if you get AQ attacking NARTH, then anyone who opposes NARTH will be tagged as "objectively pro-Al Qaeda" on Little Green Footballs and other neo-fascist blogs.

Disgraced Rentboy Patron Dr. George Rekers Resigns From NARTH

NARTH vice president of operations David Pruden tells TPMmuckraker that Rekers first offered his resignation last Thursday, and officially resigned today. NARTH is a group that promotes the idea that homosexuality can, and should, be cured. Pruden also denied a report in the Miami New Times that NARTH had been involved in helping Rekers respond to the media. "NARTH has never had any role in advising Dr. Rekers except to suggest that if he is innocent he needs to get a good lawyer," Pruden said in an email. "He has friends who are members of NARTH and they are free to talk with, advise, and needless to say, they are free to help him in any way they might select." "NARTH as an organization has taken no official role in this other than asking him to explain to us what has happened and in accepting his resignation," he said.

UPDATE: On his personal site, Rekers acknowledges his resignation and pledges to move forward with a defamation lawsuit.

"I am immediately resigning my membership in NARTH to allow myself the time necessary to fight the false media reports that have been made against me. With the assistance of a defamation attorney, I will fight these false reports because I have not engaged in any homosexual behavior whatsoever. I am not gay and never have been.” (May 11, 2010)

Yesterday a source told me that Rekers had decided against legal action. The above could just be blustering. Or my source could be wrong.

Can you sue someone if you get your "luggage lifted" by an extremely attractive 20 year old male escort (also by other male escorts in the past as well) and people come to the conclusion you must be gay and say it?

Well, see, it doesn't count as homosexual behavior if you just lie there and let the boy do it. Even if you told him what to do.

The convoluted thinking these people go through is amazing.

What if he did it to the boy in return? Can he be considered part homo now?

(Post 36)

"Basically he told me to stroke across the penis and the thigh, and to go back and forth, not necessarily give it a jerking motion."

Lucien claims Rekers would sometimes reciprocate the genital rub.

Rekers can claim he was doing research on various boys from Rentaboy.

Psychologist Resigns from NARTH after Gay Prostitute's Claims

In a follow-up e-mail to Christianity Today, Rekers said that his wife will be retiring soon and will accompany him on trips when their sons are unavailable.

"I confessed to the Lord and to my family that I was unwise and wrong to hire this travel assistant after knowing him only one month before the trip and not knowing whether he was more than a person raised in a Christian home," Rekers said. "I also confessed to the Lord and to my family the sin of thereby putting myself into a vulnerable situation where I tragically became subject to false allegations."

:rotflmao: He got his luggage lifted for a damn month?!
This guy seriously needs to shut up. Its already been revealed that he got his luggage lifted twice before the trip and now he reveals that he's known Lucien for a full month. Maybe he should keep talking...he keeps digging himself a bigger hole

Rekers said that he regrets "unanticipated harm" for his "unwise decision," and briefly mentioned part of the trip. "One thing for which I am grateful is that my travel assistant openly shared his spiritual doubts with me during the trip and he did let me share the gospel of Jesus Christ with him with many Scriptures in three extended conversations."

Regrets he got caught. And Lucien already stated the man did not even mention religion during the trip aside from one conversation.

Rekers said he is being advised by a team of three Christian counselors. "And I have committed myself to ongoing meetings with an experienced pastor and counselor from my church, so I can more fully understand my weaknesses and prevent this kind of unwise decision-making in the future."

More like understand how to prevent getting caught again.

Rekers declined a phone interview with CT. "Because this has become a legal matter concerning defamation, Professor Rekers has been advised not to grant interviews," an unnamed respondent said in an e-mail from his website.

Yeah, I would think after being caught on speakerphone and revealing yourself as a lying hypocrite, you would now know to simply stop talking to people.

NARTH Explains it All ! (from their web site)

NARTH Position Statements

1. Right to Treatment

NARTH respects each client's dignity, autonomy and free agency.

We believe that clients have the right to claim a gay identity, or to diminish their homosexuality and to develop their heterosexual potential.

The right to seek therapy to change one's sexual adaptation should be considered self-evident and inalienable.

We call on our fellow mental-health association to stop falsely claiming to have "scientific knowledge" that settles the issue of homosexuality. Instead, our mental-health associations must leave room for diverse understandings of the family, of core human identity, and the meaning and purpose of human sexuality.
2. Gay Advocacy in Public Schools

When schools offer information on sexual orientation, the facts should be presented in a fair and balanced manner.

Groups such as the American Psychological Association currently recommend that schools censor all "ex-gay" materials, and prohibit discussion about those who have chosen to change their orientation. Respect for diversity, however, requires teaching about all principled positions. We live in a multi-cultural society where tolerance for differences is essential.

And when homosexuality is discussed, it must not cross the line into lifestyle advocacy. Ultimately, sexual lifestyle decisions hinge on matters of deeply held values. Schools should respect the right of families to convey their own social values to their children. 3. Pedophilia

Early sexual experiences with an older, same-sex person are commonly reported by our homosexual clients. And some studies do suggest that such experiences may be more common among homosexuals than heterosexuals; in proportion to their numbers, that is, homosexuals may be more likely to sexually abuse a same-sex minor.

However, the data remains inconclusive for several reasons.
Studies have not always been able to determine the sexual orientation of the same-sex molester (was he a heterosexual man crossing over into same-sex behavior? a bisexual? or a homosexual?)
Also, clinical reports suggest that a very substantial proportion of homosexual molestation is not reported to adults or legal authorities because the child was ashamed, fearful or considered the same-sex contact with an older person to have been "consensual."

For these and other reasons, it is difficult to come to a conclusive answer on the basis of the evidence now available. 4. Homophobia

The term "homophobia" is often used inaccurately to describe any person who objects to homosexual behavior on either moral, psychological or medical grounds. Technically, however, the terms actually denotes a person who has a phobia--or irrational fear--of homosexuality. Principled disagreement, therefore, cannot be labeled "homophobia."
5. Same-Sex Marriage

Social science evidence supports the traditional model of man-woman marriage as the ideal family form for fostering a child's healthy development.
6. On the Meaning of Tolerance and Diversity

"Tolerance and diversity" means nothing if it is extended to activists and not traditionalists on the homosexual issue.

Tolerance must also be extended to those people who take the principled, scientifically supportable view that homosexuality works against our human nature. 7. On the Causes of Homosexuality

NARTH agrees with the American Psychological Association that "biological, psychological and social factors" shape sexual identity at an early age for most people.

But the difference is one of emphasis. We place more emphasis on the psychological (family, peer and social) influences, while the American Psychological Association emphasizes biological influences--and has shown no interest in (indeed, a hostility toward) investigating those same psychological and social influences.

There is no such thing as a "gay gene" and there is no evidence to support the idea that homosexuality is simply genetic. However, biological influences may indeed influence some people toward homosexuality; recent studies point to prenatal-hormonal influences, especially in men, that result in a low-masculinized brain; also, there may be genetic factors in some people -- both of which would affect gender identity, and therefore sexual orientation
. But none of these factors mean that homosexuality is normal and a part of human design, or that it is inevitable in such people, or that it is unchangeable.

Numerous examples exist of people who have successfully modified their sexual behavior, identity, and arousal or fantasies.

Family Research Council's First President Headed Florida's DCF Until The Year Before George Rekers Was Paid $120,000

In 2002 then Florida Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Jerry Regier, another Family Research Council co-founder and a buddy of George Rekers, to head the Department of Children and Families, the very agency now at the center of controversy over Rekers' payment of $120,000 to testify in against allowing gay adoption. Shortly after Regier assumed the top post at DCF, the Miami Herald unearthed a 1989 article co-authored by Reiger and Rekers that made some outrageous claims.

In a 1989 essay entitled The Christian World View of the Family, Regier and co-author George Rekers railed against abortion and gay couples forming families, and emphasized that husbands have "final say in any family dispute.'' And the essay declares that ''biblical spanking'' that leads to "temporary and superficial bruises or welts do not constitute child abuse.'' The essay also said Christians should not marry non-Christians, that divorce is acceptable only when there is adultery or desertion and that wives should view working outside the home as ''bondage.'' The ''radical feminist movement,'' the essay adds, "has damaged the morale of many women and convinced men to relinquish their biblical authority in the home.'' Asked if the governor was aware of Regier's writings before they were raised by The Herald, Bush spokeswoman Katie Muniz said: "I have a simple answer. No.'' But, she added, "Mr. Regier has been an outstanding public servant for over a decade serving two presidents and a sitting governor. His record speaks for itself. Many of our nation's finest public servants past and present have been men and women of faith.''

And this just keeps getting better...
