Hello all,

I forgot my meds for depression this morning, and I feel very bad right now, agitated and with tiny panic attacks.

Does anyone know if this kind of removal sensation is real ? Can it be just with few hours without the drug ?

It's not a great feeling, but maybe I make a fool of myself and it's nothing but a bad moment.

I wish I could help you, but I have had no experience whatsoever with such meds. It could be psychosomatic, but it could also be real. I wouldn't dare to tell you one or the other.

I believe most depression meds come with warnings when it comes to missed doses and stopping "cold turkey."

If your physician isn’t available for counsel, call your chemist for advice.

I take mine with breakfast, if I forget I can tell by early afternoon. I find myself up tight.

It depends on the med. Some anti-depressants like Effexor have a very short half-life and can cause withdrawal the same day. Some like Prozac take weeks to leave the body and you wouldn't even notice if you missed a dose. The longer acting ones are much easier to come off of too. Taking Effexor was one of the top 5 worst things ever to happen in my life.

I tried Effexor one time but it didn't suit me at all, I stopped very early. I'm taking escitalopram at the moment (for depression).

^ So that is brand name Lexapro in the U.S. A quick Google search tells me "Biotransformation of escitalopram is mainly hepatic, with a mean terminal half-life of about 27-32 hours.". So yeah, you could have withdrawal if you miss a dose.

I don't know how it works in France but over here I would call my psychiatric case worker and ask for advice

Teehee I immediately read that as ectoplasm LOL

It could be a withdrawal, since everyone's body processes drugs differently. Usually missing a dose a few hours wouldn't cause withdrawal, particularly for once daily drugs, since the drug metabolism is usually long, longer than 24 hours, but again some people may process the drug faster, causing it to lose effect quicker than average population.

Nonetheless at the same time it also could be psychosomatic thoughts. I have met some people who are so fixated on correct time of drug taking that they experience some symptoms when they missed a dose - like people with OCD trying to fight their OCD.

The easiest (but not most accurate) way to see this is to remember: Did you experience these sort of symptoms when you missed a dose of other drugs which are not supposed to cause withdrawal (like antibiotics or blood pressure drugs or any drug you took)?
The more precise way is to consult your doctor about this.

Thanks all for the information and the kind words.

I saw my doctor this afternoon and I'm in a more stable state today.
Majorly freaked out because my firm will stop paying me because I was too often sick. I have 0€ to live this November. I'm lucky my parents can give me some money to pay the rent.

(*8*)Glad to hear your feeling better today. Set short and long term goals and keep plugging along. Glad to hear you have family support as well. Take care of yourself because your worth it!

or it may just be panic thinking about coping without his meds
