Report Claims Libya Protest Deaths Hit 200

So I'm sure this thread won't have the same traction as the Wisconsin coup d'etat, but how do you guys think that Libya will play out?

Are the Libyans finally over the never ending love affair with fearless leader wacky Ghaddafi?

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Wo...rts_Said_200_Dead_In_Past_Four_Days_Of_Unrest

no. I think Whacky ghadaffi will return to his old ways and effectively supress them. He will move closer to iran again diplomatically as they do the same thing and farther away from us.

The Air Force now has robot humming birds capable of flight just like real hummingbirds and hard to distinguish from the real thing. Maybe a little birdie could go take care of the Colonel, and see if that loosens things up.

Or at least we could get looks at what's going on.

I think the last thing the region needs is 'help' from the United States, to be honest.

^
Probably.

Last night when I was watching a piece about those robo-birds, I was wishing the news agencies had a few thousand of them.

There is another way of course. Perhaps Hillary could send some 'experts' from Wall Street to advise the Libyans on their financial services.
The country would collapse within the year!

Those asshole dictators sure don't want to leave once they gain power, do they? It's good to be da King.....

Qaddafi will be ousted; it's going to happen because a lot of his people have already stepped down. It's not going to be as easy as Egypt tho. Libyan citizens are loyal to their tribe, including members of the military, not the Libyan government.

And Surprise, surprise.... oil prices are jumping. Every time someone farts in the mid east the oil companies use that as an excuse to raise oil prices.

Now only is the North Korean people can get of Kim Jong-il, but everything there is so censored there they probably haven't hear about the revolutions in the Middle East.

There's an interesting function that goes on with the oil thing. A guy on TV last night was explaining it... sort of. It isn't so much the producers of oil that decide to raise prices, but people who are buying on the spot market or short-term future contracts, who to be sure they get theirs decide to bid higher when there's uncertainty.

Of course last time we played this game speculators got in on it in ways that weren't obvious until much later. Hopefully we can avoid that part of it this time.

Yeah, right.

As for the Glorious Leader, the N Koreans pretty much think he's a god, which makes the whole game different. And it isn't perfunctory as with emperor-worship in Roman days; they're thoroughly brainwashed.

Reagan should have taken this scumbag out in the 80s. The guy was a huge financier of terrorism.

I think I heard a brief news mention of some leaders in the Libya military suggesting that the troops should ally with the people. Of course there are the defections to Malta, and those guys are telling the story.

This ain't done yet.

Meanwhile, the Cleric that is the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood issued a Fatwa against Khadafi, telling Libyan soldiers that, if given the chance, they should kill him.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110221/wl_mideast_afp/libyapoliticsunrestfatwa_20110221212046

With the defections, and seeming disarray within parts of the Libyan military, Khadafi might not be long for this world.

That guy's a loose cannon -- hard to believe he's head of that organization of Muslim scholars.

Well yeah, he's nuts. But its pretty serious if he's issuing a fatwa against you and you're the leader of an Islamic country. Its also pretty serious because he's a Sunni religious leader, and Libya is overwhelmingly Sunni.

In other words, Khadafi is screwed. I will be shocked if he makes it out of this alive.

I guess after these dictators are gone,

hopefully the people in that region will be free to do what ever they want including hot hot porn !!!

I heard a commentator observing the irony that Iraq is suddenly one of the most stable governments in the region. Any revolutionary zeal there is largely spent after the war.

Iraq is neither stable nor a democracy. It's run by a bunch of thugs backed up by their respective state militias.

^ This.

It is an artificially functioning puppet state. The moment that the Empire withdraws the last of the military force maintaining the peace, the country will devolve into sectarian and tribal fighting.
