The Michigan state senate - in republican control - adjourned today for spring break with no action on a second primary -

anyone who knows Michigan republican senators could have predicted this would happen given the past budget battles we have had in a nearly broke state

also given Republican concerns about the legality and constitutionality of private money for pubic events, begiinning with Michigan atrorney general Mike Cox (a republican)

it was never up to Clinton

it was never up to Clinton and Obama

these things are governed by law

if Michigan is to re-do anything it will do it as the Democratic congressional districts asked, the way we have done it since 1976, which was fine with Bill and Hillary in 1992 ad 1996 - by caucus, paid for by private money run in the private sector

I haven't followed the Michigan situation as closely as you probably have. Does the fact that a new vote would have to be paid for by the private sector significantly reduce the chance of a re-vote taking place?

yes

the republicans in the senate and the republican attorney general did not feel it was legal and it is now over with the senate adjourning

Sorry, I'm a bit thick. Is it likely that a re-vote will take place under the circumstances you cite above? i.e., by caucus, paid for by private money, as the Democratoc congressional districts asked?

no, the primary issue is dead - it had to have been passed today to meet all legal guidelines and frankly the Republican senate was in no mood to do anything for the Democratic party

the only way Michigan can act now is by caucus - which we actually do have scheduled - right now they are to choose the actual delegates as apportioned by the disputed January primary but they can easily be changed to the usual presidential selection caucus which Michigan has done every election beginning with 1976

I enjoy your posts

you are not thick at all in any way that I can tell -

your posts have been refreshing and I admire your intelligence

I have been in favor of doing it the Michigan way - caucus - from the beginning

we have done caucuses beginning in 1976 - and they were good enough for the Clintons in 1992 and 1996

a re-do primary was never an option, it is impossible logistically if not legally - but if the state party leaders had not gotten greedy in cohorts with the state republicans, we would have had a primary in February, one in compliance with party rules

most members of the state party that I heard from before and after that thing in January were very unhappy that our state party was not complying with national party rules and would have been happy with the approved primary date, mid February, I would have fine with that too

my congressional district went on reocrd in March - with many Dem cd parties - as demanding the Januay thing be tossed and we have a caucus - that has been supported across a broad spectrum of the party

if we don;t have a caucus, it will just be divisive and it will be resolved by pure power politics - and we never needed to go this road

I resented the primary grandstanding by Clinton yesterday since she was falsely trying to pin something on Obama over which he has no control, not being the Republican majority leader of the Michigan state senate

What would be done about the persons who voted the first time ?
1 person 1 vote.
What about the Repugs who voted in the 1st prim ?
Will voting records be checked and verified , prior to a caucus ?
Would those who voted early be banned ?

is this an open or closed caucus ?

Even those who don''t like caucuses ought to agree that it would be better than nothing.

The next step should be the DNC telling the states to set about disentangling from the respective governments, so legislatures can't hold the party's business hostage.
