Republican Va. Guv rolls back gay protections

yeah... and it happens to be that most of the PEOPLE that are for gay rights are democrats.

So? Who the fuck cares?? Vote for the person and what they stand for and not the party. If you don't, you'll end up with someone like, oh, GW.

There is no "better alternative" amongst those two choices. Wake the hell up people. Both parties are owned by corporations. They will sell your asses down the river in a moment's notice. Hell, I would bet that the only reason gay marriage isn't legal everywhere already is that corporations want to perpetuate the issue to use it as a wedge to distract from their nefarious dealings.

I agree that corporations own both parties. Or at least most of both parties. The Beltway mentality captures all long-serving pols eventually.

I disagree with your assertion that corporations are stirring up the gay marriage issue. That's religious fervor stirred up by the religious and political strategists taking advantage of that fervor to get elected. As far as I know, big business doesn't really play a huge role in the marriage debate. Big religion does i.e. the RCC and the LDS.

And where do those churches get their money? Donations from the rich. Most of them will give to the church so they don't have to be held personally responsible.

That isn't accurate. Most churches get their money from fundraisers or directly from their members. (the exception being the mormon church) I know that the catholic church gets their money through a ton of small donations.

^ Yea, churches have been scamming people out of their money for over a thousand years ;)

Haha really? I was expecting something like "Yup, and governments have been doing it for millennia" ;)

I do vote for the PERSON, gay rights are a very high priority for me obviously. It just so happens the people that care about gay rights are mostly democrats. If there was a conservative/republican candidate that was for gay rights, I might vote for them...... but thats like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Pssst! [whisper]They aren't your friends.[/whisper]

You're in St. Pete now. You need some new friends.

And remember, friends don't let friends vote Republican.

Construct - I see that you live in Fort Worth - i'm new here and I think I have agreed to just not discuss politics with anyone because it seems like everyone, regardless of how gay friendly they are, are still republican! :(

As for Virginia - I lived there for a year and found it to actually be a fairly moderate state, but then again I lived in Charlottesville and traveled to DC quite a bit. I do know that southern Virginia is very conservative....it is a shame to see such a wonderful state be at the hands of this idiot after all of the wonderful things Tim Kain did. Question to Virginian's - was Kain up for re-election or had hd done all of his terms? When I lived there he seemed to have an excellent reputation among all of the Virginian's I talked with.

That's a pretty big exception. The Mormon church donates a ton of money to anti-gay causes.

That wasn't your statement. You said that most churches get their money from the rich, which isn't accurate. How much they give to anti-gay causes was irrelevant to my statement.

(and the mormon church, in comparison to the catholic church and others, is really quite small in terms of financial power)

I would support a measure to tax all churches in the United States.

At which point i'll grab a bucket of popcorn and just sit back and watch - taxing churches and other religous institutions that would make the conservative's blood boil beyond belief

Well, okay, um . . . there are a few gay organizations in Fort Worth including political and educational organizations. The same is true for Dallas and even Plano and Denton. DFW is indeed conservative as urban areas go, but there are opportunities here, too.

So, I think my suggestion (that one needs new friends if the ones you've got vote against you) applies even in your situation.
