Iowa - Huckabee - fanatical religious right makes a stand - a stand that has no national mandate - what should be an absurdly irrelevant result instead creates a void - mccain shouts with glee at mitt's non win

NH - McCain - the mav man beats next door billionaire Mitt - Mitt's poor Iowa showing and negative campaigning gets the better of him - independent nature of NH voter goes solidly for McCain - and did u see that Huckabee never mentions god in NH???

Michigan - Mitt - McCain stays true and doesn't pander to economically disadvantaged auto workers - Mitt promises them the undeliverable - and Michigan voters take the bait

so what up?

Huckabee - religious right fav on social issues - no cred on anything else

McCain - despite his independent streak - seems like core Repubs don't dig him enough and despite him being far and away their best electable choice ...............immigration and voting against Bush tax cuts might be wounds he cannot recover from

Mitt - might be the default now - he's got tons of money to win a war of attrition - he has his "stories" down pat now - so he SEEMS republican and conservative - and he looks good

Rudy - hmmmm - despite his hash marks in recent primaries - IF he can pull out Florida well it's a new ballgame - he's not even in the lead there anymore but that was before McCain did not pull out Michigan - so he's still "in the game" albeit barely breathing

having 3 diff winners so far HELPS him - or at least keeps him on life support

but no matter what - the repubs are not organized - they're fractured

religious types - Huckabee - unelectable

warring types - mccain or rudy

economic types - romney - huckabee is a tax and spend guy (so they say) and mccain well he voted AGAINST Bush tax cuts - and mitt is a tremendously successful bizman

the repubs ..........

are a mess

at a time when they could rally around mccain (electable) - with the dems clawing at each other (anyone see rangel with his anti obama rant after obama graciously offered a truce?) - the repubs are a horror show

and looking more and more that they will get trounced in the general

dumbies

Mc Cain is the only one I'd feel good with as our president, and I'm still not voting for him because I don't like the overall Republican message.

The Democrats should stop their childish games and stop personalizing each other.Real leaders are confident enough in their own abilities they don't stoop down to belittle others when the going gets tough.

Neither party has an unassailable right to majority party status....that we don't have a strong enough third party that can govern with one of the others, forcing a move towards away from nonstop partisanship and stalemate,is a damn shame.I don't believe if things don't improve in the next four years,we should keep the same old two party system that only ultimaely benefits the hacks and partisans and fucks America.

They're not "rallying around" McCain for a number of reasons, Chance.

One is that he's not really acceptable to the ReligioPublican party within a party.

Another is that too much of the party is aware of his record of lying in his home state, and unhappy with his casual dismissal of free speech on numerous occasions.

A third is that he grasps the meaning of the plain words of the Second Amendment only a little better than Hillary Clinton.

Another is the way he wanders back and forth on issues to curry favor with special interests or to gain votes.

He is loved by a large portion of the GOP for his authoritarian, anti-democratic streak, but that's balanced by old-school Republicans who don't believe in a police state.

not being acceptable to the christian right should be a badge of courage

being "electable" should be a positive

he has not casually dismissed free speech - that's a less than casual misrepresentation

mccain is not a special interest group guy - he's stubborn for sure - to his own detriment

i know we could go back and forth on this - u have a large projectile up ur ass for mr. mccain - that is clear

but back to the real issue

HE IS THE MOST ELECTABLE OF THE PRETENDERS

it's really that simple

if the repubs were adults

or smart

the rest doesn't really matter

Chance - you should throw your hat into the ring, of course you would have to distance yourself from Bush which might be traumatic for you.

Congrats on the Giants win. Eli just doesn't look like a QB, he gets lost in his helmet.

The Republicans are finished in this election. It's like I said many months ago before they began ... the Party is entirely too divided ... between the Evangelical Base, the Warhawks, the Fiscal Conservatives, and the Anti War base of the Party. The fact that we still have no clear Front Runner is a sign that this Party is as disorganized as can be.

My prediction is that Romney will get the Nomination, at this point. Which should be an easy win for the Democrats. Not as easy a win as Huckabee, but will still be an easy win, nonetheless.

George Bush and the NeoCons have really Fucked up this Party ... and this country, to the point we are in a recession now, and possibly heading for a depression ... all because of Bush's greedy War on Terror and his own selfish interests in getting revenge for his father against Hussein.

It's a lock that the Democrats have this nomination won. Let's hope the Party as a whole, does the right thing and keep the Establishment Candidate, Hillary Clinton, away from the Nomination. Because whoever the Democrats wind up nominating will be President.

Rubbish.

"Real men" do this. "Real leaders" do that. Those silly expressions make me cringe as much as the expression, "keep it real" from people who are posers and pretenders and wannabes.

You know what real leaders do? They succeed sometimes and they fall down sometimes. And they get up and get going again.

I think, overall, the Democratic primary season has been remarkable for its relative dignity and decency and respect. Have some people stumbled in their comments or strategy now and then? Sure. But we haven't seen anything remotely like Bush pulled on McCain in 2000 and someone appears to be pulling on him now in South Carolina.

As exemplified by their substantive debate in Vegas this week, Democrats are doing just fine. Their biggest problem is they agree too much and so drawing distinctions between each other is difficult. We have a black man, a woman and a son of a millworker from the South running; and they're all smart, educated viable candidates. Republicans have ... well you know who they are. Despite their flaws, I think Democrats are phenominal right now and Republicans, as the OP says, are drowning.

The Republican primary in SC provides a nice snapshot of the current Republican base. There is push polling from a pro Hucklabee group, anti-Mormon literature and McCain is being portrayed as a traitor and attacked for his stand against the "rebel flag".

The Dems should be proud of their field and stop the petty squabbling among themselves. Gender or race issues will be introduced by the Republicans soon enough and have no place in the Democratic Party.

proud?

obama and clinton have accused each other of playing the race card

proud?

it goes both ways iman

so mitt wins nevada - a walkover really

but he's not really participating in south carolina - where huckabee's christian coalition seems to be winning the battle over mccains war vets .......

so huckabee in south carolina - which wounds mccain greatlly

and makes mitt kinda sorta the lead guy

scary shit

mitt as the repub candidate

good photos

is all

he will get slaughtered in a general - with no indies or reagan dems going his way

so dumb ............

I'm watching CNN and they haven't declared McCain the winner in SC yet, because of several populated counties that have yet to report, but I think it's safe to say that McCain will win.

This is going to come down to McCain and Romney on the Repub side.

mccain is in

33% to huckabee's 30

to thompson's 16%

looks like freddy took some votes away from huckabee

mccain looks pretty happy

looks like he needs a rest

i agree with midnight - it's mccain vs. romney

unless rudy wins florida

mccain after faltering in michigan - makes a mini comeback in so. carolina, the state that 8 years ago went for gwb

nice irony for mccain
