Restaurant withdrawal/sadness...

when i moved 'hoods about 6 years ago, i gave up being walking distance from a little hole-in-the-wall vietnamese place that not only had the BEST vietnamese i've ever had outside of vietnam - but also made kickass hawker wok styles of noodles from singapore, malaysia, japan etc. absolutely out of this world. i REALLY miss that.

You guys are probably gonna think I'm pretty weird after reading this thread, but I have a real issue I need to discuss and get you guys' opinions on. :D

Have you ever frequented a particular restaurant, fallen in love with their food, service, prices, etc. etc...only to have trouble finding a similar establishment once you move away?

That's happening to me right now, and it's upsetting. There's this amazing Chinese restaurant here in town that my boyfriend and I patronize often (when he and I aren't cooking). They have great food at more-than-generous prices, and the staff is super sweet.

Well, we are in the process of moving away and we've been sampling other Chinese restaurants in the city we're moving to--and sadly, none of them hold a candle to 'our place' here. So, we know once we finish moving--it's adios to it, and it seems that nothing will ever replace it.

wtf!?

Anyone ever had anything like this happen?

btw...i'm not really sad about this, but it's gonna be pretty damn irritating.

Man, you don't even know. I'm still trippin' over a the closing of my favorite sub shop growing up, and that was like 5 or 6 years ago. It actually got to be almost embarrassing how familiar they came to be with my family. Everything was so good, that it always took forever to place an order, because it was so hard to decide what you wanted. Occasionally I run into the woman who ran the shop, and everytime I see her, it's a struggle to keep from kicking her in the stomach. Word is, she'd closed up shop, to devote more time to her damn kids:rolleyes:

On the other hand, I guess the closing was actually a good thing. Before the weed got me, I was self-medicating with food, and got up to about 275lbs at my biggest. I weigh in at about 175-80 now..|

I really miss the little Mom and Pop and local restaurants and cafes we had in my hometown. Some of the names of the local places were Phil and Lil's, The Palace, The Golden Hour, Frank's Cafe and they all had their specials. I miss the Golden Hour burgers & Frank's homemade chow mein. The River Bend had the best steak you could get and their liver pâté was incredible. There are still a couple local places that are successful and I hope they stay in business forever.

Now all you see are Applebees, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Red Robin..... the same chain places you find in every town.

I love the orange chicken and fried rice from Panda Express. I would go to this mall a couple times a year, and I would order this every time I went. Well, they closed it down and there are no other PEs in the area.

There's a Chinese food place across the street that has orange-flavored chicken, complete with little oranges in it. . .it's pretty good, but it just isn't the same.
