On-Topic Rhode Island Approves Marriage Equality: Tenth State

40 more states to go for marriage equality, and once the Supreme Court strikes down section 3 of DOMA, I think there is going to be a snowball effect with the southern states lagging behind.

I can't see it happening in Texas.

@ Rolyo85: Well yes, dinosaurs do tend to not learn from the past and increasingly become extinct. But just as groups like the Klu Klux Klan grew after the beginning of the civil rights movement, there is the possibility of those same factions gaining strength in the future.

@ White Eagle: Texas may surprise us. Who would have thought that Iowa would have equal marriage laws before California, Washington, and Oregon?

ALL the hate groups have been DISASTROUSLY defunded in the last two years. NOM is now exclusively dependent on its "mysterious" donors (the Vatican) and the rest are largely toothless. In November we outspent them 5 to 1. That's why I'm saying this is not the end of the 19th century or the 50-60-70s of the 20th. This is a different time. People are on our side. The media is on our side. Pop culture is on our side. The President of the United States is on our side. Publicly and on record.

Mark my words, it WON'T be the same.

Our impact. It's our year, gurls.

I'm a boy.

Rolyo85, you do know that I hope you are right, but the pragmatist in me still says hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. I use the civil right movement, proposition 8 ad Washington's first marriage equality voting as indicators that it may not be smooth sailing.

While Rhode Island is one of the smallest of states, today it is one of the largest.

Well done to our friends in RI.

Actually, considering how informed users with actual contributions are being chased out by redirected mods, it will soon be just you, Jack and Benvolio posting here. And you WILL miss us...

Oh Durango will still be here as well. And Reardon. JUB's brain trust.

Gay marriage that has absolutely none of the benefits that heterosexuals have is a joke. The supreme court must act and trust me they will not rule and call it a state issue.
