Oh wow. He's still around? As a joke birthday present one of my roommates bought me a VHS tape of Richard Simmon's Disco Sweat. Needless to say, I ROFLed. It's still sitting on the coffee table...I don't know whether to pop it in or not.

Richard is a man, born with very little discernable talent, who craved fame and became a tireless self-promoter.

Certainly he is both gay and effeminate, but 90% of what you see on TV is a well honed act.

He's been on Letterman more often than almost any other guest, and what you see there has been worked out by Dave and him before the program. It's all shtick.

He lost most of his hair through fad diets, so, yes, his coiffure is almost entirely hairplugs. That's why it doesn't change.

I don't find him at all scary. Sometimes he can be really funny and other times silly and boring. But he knows what works for him, and it's given him a very comfortable (if exhausting) life.
