I"ll give it to him---he's made a niche for himself and I would guess he's done well financially.

He found what works for his career and sticks with it...those tiny shorts, the tank top, and his hair are a part of his trademark.

Richard Simmons is one of the last of the 70's and 80's generation of celebrities that has yet to come out of the closest. But I mean, its so obvious its painful. I don't know who he thinks he's fooling. It's like pointing to a house fire and saying it's not flaming.

He doesn't scare me, he embarrasses me. Everyone knows he is gay. Why does he have to be so flamboyant? I don't like the word "queer," but that is the only word I can think of to describe him.
 
Richard Simmons is the white, gay Cornel West. There are some people who have such an iconic look that it's part of their identity. He wouldn't be who he is without his outrageous appearance.
 
I'm with raven, I think Richard Simmons is really endearing.

I wouldn't want to hang out with him but hey I'd buy him a drink if I ever ran into him. :D
 
I think he's good for a laugh.

He's not hurting anyone; in fact, he actually has helped a lot of people. Good on him.
 
I think he did hurt David Letterman on his show, inadvertently, once.

He's a hoot, but he's still Scary, lol.

He embarrasses you? Why on earth should you become embarrassed on his behalf? Richard Simmons speaks only for himself; he represents only himself, and anyone who thinks otherwise is the one with the problem; the hang-up; the delusion.

And why does he have to be so flamboyant, you ask? Maybe because that's a feature of his personality? Maybe that's just a part of who he is? It's a short life, and for all we know we only have one turn; so don't we all have the right to present ourselves to the world in the manner that we choose without having to care whether we happen to be catering to any particular person's taste or not and without worrying whether someone out there among the masses feels insecure or embarrassed by us based on a tenuous link that we may or may not share; or a single feature that we may or may not have in common?
