Rick Perry: Asshole

BTW

With homophobic fundie-ism being mooted just before Christmas, can the usual Islamaphobia and blame the immigrants ads be far behind?

And from the Globe:

Aside from Perry's offensive political ad, there is a larger life-and-death issue at hand here. Each year there are reports of teens committing suicide, many of whom were publicly bullied about their sexual orientation. It is disheartening to see a grown man, particularly one who aspires to be President of the United States, contributing to such hatred and to speak out against what is a legal right (for gays to serve in the military).

So Rick, thanks for the Christmas present to all the young homo kids out there who now have it reinforced again that the Republican party thinks they're freaks.

And don't be afraid to ask Youtube to have the piece pulled because it violates their code of conduct.

No, the video should never be pulled. People need to keep seeing what an asshole and homophobe this guy is. Even the typical homophobic Republican (among those who are homophobic, which is the vast majority), I think at this point, disagrees that gays serving in the military is the most threatening of all issues that have ever existed; after all that was the first specific thing to come out of his mouth. Funny that he doesn't say anything about the economy, isn't it?

He LOVES the way the economy is going now, and he doesn't have plans to change course, anytime soon, from the Republican mantra to stop or postpone ALL regulation of business and the Banksters etc. (Of course that mantra is being successfully applied to everything that ever hits the Senate, let alone sails through the House (or likewise gets defeated in the House) on partisan votes. He probably hopes that half of the 99%'ers...well..."die early." After all, that will mean fewer Democrats.

It became 436,107 when I put my vote in.

Republicans look at YouTube, too!! Some of these votes are coming from Republicans.

EPIC FAIL!

The 40-to-1 ratio has remained pretty consistent from the first tally posted in this thread.

I have to agree with those that have said its frightening that someone that is running for office could actually spew so much hatred. Between Bachmann and Santorum - I didn't think it possible that there was room for another one to be even *more* ignorant, bigoted, and hateful. That said - even with his pandering to a religious extreme - which I don't know about the rest of you, but I was raised that religion isn't supposed to have anything to do with government - its the separation of church and state isn't it? - I can't help thinking the overwhelming majority of people - even conservative - could do anything else except write him off as a wing nut at this point. Still scary though.

There's no violation of the establishment clause for a politician to have religious views and even to use them as a source of guidance for policy. Many presidents have done that, but what's new with this batch is that they aren't satisfied having the Bible as a guiding measure; no, they want not just to use it as a moral anchor for making policy, but to turn it into policy, and to use force to impose those views on everyone.

This is why I've argued that what should be done in terms of marriage is to just remove the word from government and to have "interpersonal unions" or "registered unions" open to everyone: the parties to the union would go and tell the government that they're united, and there'd be nothing about it that sounded like religion.

No offense J_B18 but why even bother posting this? Rick Perry is deader than dead.

Wouldn't it be more effective for the Democratic supporters to start dealing dirt on Mittsy and Newton?

The Democrats should just let sleeping dogs lie until March, when Newt (hopefully) more or less sews up the nomination to the GOP Presidential ticket. He will be the gift that keeps giving. I'd certainly much rather see [strike]Gingrich[/strike] Gangrene as the opponent of Obama, than The Mittster.

would love a debate question to be to other candidates:

how do you feel about this ad from rick perry

do you support it?
would you do a similar ad?

BOOM !!!

I'll make a bold prediction and say Newt runs the table through Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and probably Florida. At which point Rick Perry won't be around any longer.

This guy is such a dick for making an ad like this, the GOP candidates are pulling out all their greatest hits and hoping they work. And they won't once again.

So many of my conservative/Republican friends are voting Paul or Gingrich here in Iowa. Not one of them has said they will caucus for Romney, not one. They view him as a guy who'll say anything and is way to liberal. They don't want a RINO getting the nomination and don't like that he's a Mormon. I think we'll see this sentiment repeated through all the early states.

Newt is sitting in very good position and Rick can go suck his thumb/dick/wife's tits/whatever soon enough because he won't be relevant for long. Not that he really ever has been.

Saw on the news tonight that Perry couldn't remember Sonia Sotomayor's name when discussing Supreme Court justices (and he thought there were only 8). I suggest the OP request a change in the title of this thread. It should be "Rick Perry: Pathetic Asshole."

Because watching this political advertisement designed to publicly demonize homosexuals stirred a rage inside me that had to be shared. Considering the video went viral just after I posted it, clearly I was not alone in this sentiment. Now, "Strong" serves as a autoimmune reaction from our society that has come so far in rejecting such bigotry, and to have it so clearly be reflected in the "dislikes" of mainstream viewers.

So yes, I find discussing this video to be significant.

It's terrifying that Americans are so desensitised to their politicians spewing this kind of bigoted garbage that even some of those against whom it's aimed can consider it "irrelevent" or not worthy of commentary. Perry is still a politician, is he not?

Although I see that someone has the church ladies or staffers sitting there pressing the 'Like' button every few seconds as well now.

And Jayhawk...this ad isn't about Rick Perry's views. He only got there first. He is only articulating the view of most of the candidates.

It is absolutely essential that this be discussed and that he is rebuked in order to shut down the possibility of his other hatemongering clown friends from thinking that this is a legitimate way to firm up their support in 2012.

I think that if this video can get 1 million Dislikes registered against it, it will be a good warning to the GOP to lay the fuck off. We're sick to fucking distraction with their perpetual Christian proselytizing and anti-gay, anti equality philosophy. We've had it with the cynical use of Homos, Islam and Immigration as their war cry every few years.

If you have five minutes to spare, just sit there and add a hundred dislikes or so.

Montemayor?

Eight Supreme Court Justices?

The guy is a moron.

But don't let up on hammering away at his stupid video.

Unfortunately for both of you the Christians will be preaching their distortion of the great nursery rhyme from their pulpits every Sunday and Wednesday and they are not alone. The Catholics will do so as well. J_B18 you go to a church that accepts you BUT admit it; for every church you attend that is accepting there are 100 others teaching hate.

SO if you got 100 million dislikes THEN maybe the republicans would take note but it is not gonna happen off a YouTube video whose majority dislikes are probably twelve years old. SO that portends a great future but as for the now it is irrelevant on the political landscape. Just as Perry is irrelevant on the political landscape. Texas knows it is fucked up and can't do nothing to change it. Whats more if you think that hating on a Perry video is going to bring tolerance to Texas then you are sadly misled about the realities in this country.

So again I found it irrelevant. Glad you guys found a place to high five one another on being in my opinion irrelevant.

Cheers
