Ridley Scott returns for ALIEN prequel!

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

i have a feeling that there's gonna be some kind of cameo from a young ripley. and maybe a cameo from sigourney as ripley's mom or something of that nature

I don't think many fans would like to see Sigourney Weaver in a role that isn't Ripley, she's too iconic for that.

I think if they did have a young Ripley it would be the kinda, 30 second glimpse of the Nostromo and good lookalike actors at the very end, even then, I think it would take away from the original too much.

Plus I wouldn't want to see another actress playing Ripley either. :(

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I can't get my head around what possible storyline goodness can become of this.. Surely there can't be any Ripley action in a PREQUEL!?

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I think the fact that Ridley Scott is masterminding this movie could see the production of a worth prequel. I also heard very early rumours that James Cameron and Scott's brother were both involved in the writing.

It at least sounds like it'll be a great movie on paper, but i'm still very cautiously optimistic; Great directors and writers can still make not-so-great movies.

That would be a rushed and clumsy way to tie the movies together. . .like showing Darth Vader and the construction of the Death Star at the very end of Star Wars: Episode III just to quickly show us what we already know will happen 20 years later.

The movies are about the Aliens, not Ripley. I love Sigourney, but she doesn't have to be in it. I'm completely sick and tired of Hollywood milking established franchises and characters. Let's try to make some new, original characters; We can't keep using the same actors and characters over and over for ANOTHER 30 years.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Well in my opinion Ripley is just as big a part of the Alien Franchise as the aliens themselves. I think if Ripley wasn't a part of the second or third, they would have failed as sequels.

I think the ending I suggested and that of Episode 3 aren't good endings, sure it was quite cool to see the super structure of the Death Star but made you realise you were cheated out of a decent ending of a 3 movie prequel that really should have only been one movie.

The rumours so far is that the prequel will explore the origins of the aliens themselves as well as the Space Jockey.

No argument there. Although the third I thought was decent, it wasn't that successful. And then there is the fourth, which was just a mess; good concept, but horrible writing, casting (Winona Ryder wtf?), acting, directing, production. It was definitely a failure even with Ripley in it. Her time in the saga is over, but I think the Alien saga does still have potential fresh material to be tapped (and they better leave the Predators out if it).

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Well apparantly from what I've seen, the third and the fourth suffered due to the interference from the studio (which has led to Fincher completely disowning the third).

I definetly think Scott could show a good angle on their origin and explain how the company came to be aware of their existance, though this would need to kinda ignore AVP movies.

I think he'd have to do something pretty remarkable with the characters to make it as special as the original was. Though with the technology nowadays he could tell the story from the perspective of the Space Jockey race or the Aliens themselves.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

An update. Anne Hathaway and James Franco are supposedly being considered for roles in this movie. Although nothing is final yet, the cast is expected to be announced soon.

Also the screenplay was rewritten by Damon Lindeloff, famed producer and writer of Lost.

Now I have a bit more hope for this movie. But I had big hopes for Alien Resurrection, too, which tanked.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

They already fucked up Rocky, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, James Bond...

Why don't they just leave the franchise alone?!

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Leave well enough alone.
The franchise was already beyond fucked since Resurrection. They can't make it any worse. But really, I'm mainly interested in seeing James Franco in his underwear as he wakes from cryonic stasis on a spaceship.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I agree with Spiff. Resurrection was not a bad movie, but there was a clash with the previous ones.

Any sequel for which you need to resurrect the protagonist or bring him back from the future will suck. How come the writers don't understand that?

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I think the whole mystery of who or what the Space Jockey was, in part, helped make the story of Alien a success. Many people have come up with their own ideas and I think they could be ruining the spirit and memory of the original by trying to go back and explain things that are probably best left as unexplained

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

What? I thought Resurrection was bloody awful. Acting, casting, writing, production, directing, writing. . . all of it. The movie only had one or two scenes that were acceptable. One with Ripley destroying the lab full of her previous failed clones was ok. The scene where the aliens sacrifice one of their own so they could escape was clever. Most everything else was garbage, especially where Ripley becomes a "grandmother" to the baby alien beast.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

This is an interesting turn of events, to say the least.

Alien' Movie Prequel Features Slaves Forced into Gay Sex

The script (by John Spaihts and recently rewritten by Damon Lindelof) tells of the space jockeys traveling from planet to planet and terraforming them. The space jockeys are holding captive of two human slave farmers named Fin and Karik and force them (via mind control) to engage in sexual activity. (The twist: they're both male)

Ok, now I really want to see James Franco in this movie.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

The first official trailer for Prometheus is out. Looks very promising. Movie debuts June 8.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Looking forward to this movie more since it looks as though it has a great balance between the style of the original and modern sci-fi film.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I am probably going to watch this for 400 times. Being a hardcore Alien and a hardcore Ridley Scott fan and a hardcore Idris Elba and a hardcore Fassbender fan, I will probably die.

This is my dream movie.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I only saw Fassbender for the first time in a trailer for another movie last night, he IS hot! XD I also love Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron, so on the cast alone, I'm happy!

The crash of the derelict looks immense and I'm glad to hear familiar homage to the score of Alien.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Two new trailers just released. Caution: these are seriously intense!

Because Hollywood like Toyota or GM are petrified to invest in something new that may not give the slanting , but still predictable returns that even Friday the 13th part 28 will give them.

Before some of leave this globe I promise you there will be a jeepers creepers pt 12
