Gee, do you suppose the Bush administration might use governmental agencies to smear people they don't like? Nah!!

The far right and GOP will have a field day with this! They are looking for any scandal that might get Bush's approval rating out of the basement and distract everyone from the war. Overall, it's typical rightwing "fear and smear" politics, which will only get worse in the coming months. They have a very strange double-standard about "freedom of speech". Only what THEY want to hear is allowed. It's OK for nutcases like Ann Coulter to spew her filth and lies, but everything Moore says or does is held up to scrutiny and "investigation". Please! That's the pot calling the kettle black. This is just another far rightwing neocon propaganda attack on freedom of speech, which they hate. They would like nothing better than to shut down all media and make Fox News (GOP-TV) the only news channel.

What? Our beloved Richard Milhouse Bush stooping to something as low as that?

Naaah...never happen.

;)

If Michael Moore broke the law, he needs to go to jail. There are still laws against going to Cuba and doing business there. Just because some here find the law inconvenient, that is unfortunate.

Re: Right Wing a.k.a. "The medical insurance industry lap dog" serves up some Kool-Ai

I think Michael Moore doesn't care if he goes to jail or has to suffer any consequences via the American justice system.

What he cares about is the truth...... and the movie has been made and will be seen, regardless of what the Repubs do now. The damage is done, and I'm glad he's got the balls big enough to continue doing what he does so well. Can't wait to see the movie myself..... my popcorn is ready.

Brilliant as usual, General Alfie.

Jail, huh? Not fined or anything like that, but jail.

Maybe he should tell the gov't he went there to get some Oxycontin that one of his many doctors prescribed.

At least I didn't suggest that he be drawn and quartered or keel hauled.

At least not until the "investigation" is over.

Then perhaps he should have a fair trail, and a jury of his peers determines whether or not he is in fact guilty of anything. ;)

Which of course leads to the speculation as to why this is really even considered newsworthy, if not perhaps an early attempt to discredit an American citizen before whatever it is they have to say can be heard.

But nah! That type of stuff NEVER happens here in America under the "leadership" of Bush Republicans does it? :grrr:

Hmm, it may well be the case that Michael Moore lied about his intentions in going to Cuba, but somehow if he had put on his visa application that he wanted to help some of those poisoned by 9/11 obtain the treatment they were being denied in America and that he was doing it as part of a documentary which he intends to show how the US healthcare system is a discrminatory cash-cow for a few rich corporations, far more concerned with maximising profits than treating the US population, and how the Bush government supports and protects that industry, maybe, just maybe his visa application would have been denied. Sometimes, journalists and documentary-makers have to bend the rules to uncover the truth.

As far as Cuba goes, I strongly suspect that the ludicrous blockade has done nothing but help Fidel Castro remain in control (while keeping the Cuban population in poverty and largely oppressed). Had the embargo been lifted, I suspect that the cultural and economic influence of America would have far outweighed the ideological influence of the Soviets and led to some form of democracy in Cuba.

Re: Right Wing a.k.a. "The medical insurance industry lap dog" serves up some Kool-Ai

I've had several friends travel to Cuba in the past year.

They took their passports to Mexico, and visited the Cuban Embassy in Mexico City and obtained travel visas there. They returned to the U.S. via the same route.

Once American's leave United States soil, we have the freedom to go and do anything that we want without our Government's permission.

Granted we do so at our own peril and risk, but Uncle Sam doesn't need to know where I've been, just where I'm "returning" from. In this case my friends were returning from Mexico. ;)

Why Michael Moore didn't go that route is interesting to me, but I know a lot of people, businessman, and politicians alike who do it. Especially here in Texas where the rice farmers look to trade with Cuba's sugar farmers, etc..

It's no secret.

It's good that Michael Moore wasn't arrested at Gitmo and placed in jail there. That is a black hole when it comes to civil liberties .... we may have never heard from him again! ;)

Re: Right Wing a.k.a. "The medical insurance industry lap dog" serves up some Kool-Ai

^You're right about Michael Moore going to Gitmo, Smelter. It's well known how the poor dears get so fat being tortured and all. Michael could do without the added weight a stay at Club Gitmo would likely produce!
