tell me what do you know about the whole machine behind Rihanna that makes sure she won't fail. i am a huge Rihanna fan but i always thought that there are way better and hotter singers than Rihanna out there with better songs why don't they become huge, what makes Rihanna a poor girl from Barbados being an international super star? i am trying to get in the industry too and trying to understand how things work.
why doesn't Kelly Rowland become huge she has good songs too.
As a preemptive statement, I do not know everything. However, I'm in L.A. so I talk to many actors/singers/dancers about their experiences in the business or pursuing the business. That, and the fact that I sing myself. What I meant by my statement is Rihanna is a corporate puppet. She was someone created for the purpose of selling, like Britney Spears.
Of course, if the public loves a certain person, they will support him/her, regardless of faults: 1) Not being able to sing live and 2) not having any other entertainment value to compensate for not singing live. I know, I know, that was a shady little jab, but I'm actually referring to Rihanna in her days around the
Girl Like Me era. This was before her funky outfits and hairstyles, when she was akward on stage and had pitch issues.
Sometimes, it is not about having good songs and certainly not about talent or a certain level of talent. There are plenty of immensely talented people with great songs who have not and/or will not receive record deals.
Allegedly, Rihanna slept with Jay-Z as well, which might have been another reason why her career received such a boost over someone else's.
Kelly Rowland's situation was different. First, she was in Destiny's Child and the only person being groomed to be a huge superstar in that group was Beyonce. She already at a disadvantage, unfortunately.
Even when Rowland released her previous solo efforts, sans David Guetta, she was badly managed and poorly promoted. A great deal of music is marketing and promotion, not just having good/great songs. Also, artists' songs can be masterpieces, but if they're not catchy (which is completely different from having good quality), it's hard for corporate execs to see dollar signs. At the end of the day, it's a business.
